Is it really necessary to prostrate to an old, immoral person? Also, I have something to ask. If a householder can realize the Dharma, should we also prostrate to the householder? It is not necessary to use excessive honorifics. Householders are not the objects of offering or the field of merit for renunciants. In this teaching, it is the young who should respect the old. The so-called 'old' who are worthy of respect are those who have taken full ordination, abide by the Vinaya, rituals, and conduct. The Blessed One has also said that those who break their vows are like stones in a field. So now, whether old or young, whoever can realize the Dharma from it, should we also respectfully prostrate to them as we would to a great powerful deity? The meaning of these two words needs to be considered. If it is not so, doing so will become a place of downfall. Is the Blessed One deceiving the monks who uphold the precepts? There are many faults in this. The Blessed One has said in many sutras that those who break the precepts should be punished. Did the Tathagata say this with this in mind? The Blessed One said: Whether old or young, whoever can realize the Dharma from it, should be respectfully prostrated to as to a great powerful deity. This is the teaching I have proclaimed for the sake of the Bodhisattvas of the future, not for the sake of the followers of the Hearer Vehicle. Son of good family, in the time when the Dharma I previously taught declines, when those who uphold the precepts decrease, when the side of those who break the precepts increases, when liberation and non-attachment are exhausted, and when slaves and servants and other bad things are widely held, even if only one of the four types of people renounces from household life into a Sangha that holds slaves and servants and other bad things, they will know the difference between what is permissible and impermissible, Vinaya and non-Vinaya. They will also know their laziness and the root of their many faults.

Eh! Knowing that this behavior is not the behavior of the Blessed One, so observing the time and place, teach the new ones to learn the nine parts of the scriptures. Even knowing that those people have failed, thinking that the sacred Dharma must be promoted, so sit silently, thinking only of this matter, and appear in the world only to protect the sacred Dharma. Son of good family, for example, when a certain king dies, there is no capable king among his sons. That king's caste's outcaste, with a beautiful voice like a dragon's roar, those outcastes seized the throne by that power and became kings. That outcaste himself was also naturally wealthy. After that, when that outcaste becomes king, the Brahmins and householders living there think, 'We cannot be employed by the outcaste,' so they abandon their homes and go to the place where people of the king's caste become kings. There are also some Brahmins and householders who cannot bear to abandon their homes, just as trees wither where they grow, so they also live in that place like trees. After that, that outcaste thought that many people had fled, so he had the outcastes guard all the roads. In order to protect the remaining people, he also announced: 'Which Brahmin who is proficient in the Vedas and has purity is willing to share half of my kingdom and wants to be my advisor!' In this way, the big drum was beaten in the city for seven days, but no one responded, saying, 'Who would be an advisor to an outcaste!' After that, that outcaste announced: 'If no one can do this, then all the Brahmins should go to the outcaste's house and eat and sleep with the outcastes! If you can't do it, I will force you to do it! If someone can do it, I will give him half of the kingdom! Whoever can drink the nectar of the thirty-three gods with me and thus obtain the opportunity to become a god, which is rare in the world!' After that, there appeared there a young, pure Brahmin with a topknot, proficient in the Vedas.

A young celibate, having heard that command, shaved his own hair, went to that Candala, prostrated to him and said: 'I will do as the King commands.' Then, that King empowered him as the leader. Then the Brahmins complained, saying: 'Having promised to be the leader of a Candala, this is bad, this is bad!' Then, in that way, the King gave him half of the kingdom and ruled together with him. Then, at one point, that Brahmin said to the Candala King: 'Great King, I have abandoned the Brahmin way and promised to be your leader, and if I want to learn every knowledge from you, you still do not trust me.' Then, that King said to him: 'Why do I not trust you? I trust you who have such qualities. Now let us drink this vase of nectar of the dead King, half and half together.' Then, at first, that minister drank, and after that, he poured another drink into the nectar by trickery, and when that King drank it, he fainted and lay as if dead. Then, that Brahmin installed the son of the former King, the capable King, as King and said: 'Do not let this kingdom be wasted in vain! A Candala is not fit to be King of this kingdom, you yourself are fit to be King! It is impossible for a Candala to be King.' Then, he gave that Candala medicine that would awaken him from his faint, made him recover, and then expelled him and punished him with the punishment of disobedience. In that way, that Brahmin re-established the kingdom and expelled that Candala, but he did not lose his Brahmin status either. The Brahmins and householders also said: 'This is a Bodhisattva, a great Bodhisattva!' and praised him, saying: 'Good! Good!' and offered to him as if offering. Likewise, the Bodhisattva, after my passing, in order to promote the sacred Dharma, will do whatever he can, and in the Sangha that desires bad things and has bad conduct, he will also show conformity with those who are immoral, the Dharma robes of those who are immoral.
