and thus faith will arise. Those sons of good family who desire the sacred Dharma, their countless sinful deeds will be purified by mere headaches, plagues, torments, and slanders. Furthermore, in future times, they will be despised by others, become ugly, their bedding, cushions, and food will become bad, they will gain nothing, be born into poor families, be born into low families, be born into families with wrong views, encounter royal conflicts, national conflicts, conflicts of unpleasant things, not see virtuous friends, lack clothes, food, bedding, cushions, disease cures, and medicine, gain little, suffer from hunger and thirst, be pleased by ordinary people, kings, ministers, and palace attendants will not listen to the Dharma, not side with the Dharma speakers, and those ministers and military leaders who are expected to be relied upon and protected will also die suddenly, not side with the sacred Dharma, even if good, they will not be beautiful, and even if they look pleasing, they will become displeasing. Therefore, it is extremely difficult for my Shravaka disciples to teach the Great Vehicle Sutras in the world. Son of good family, just as a very thick fog remains until the sun rises, but as soon as the sun rises, it will completely dissipate. Similarly, son of good family, the countless sins of those sentient beings remain until the day of the Great Nirvana, but as soon as the day of the Great Nirvana rises, those sins will be completely purified. Son of good family, also, for example, someone wants to renounce from home to homelessness, but has not yet taken the novice vows, and then someone offers a feast to the Sangha of monks including the Tathagata, at that time, that householder also puts on Dharma robes and goes into the city together with the Shravaka disciples of the Tathagata, If arranged, then the number of the Sangha of the Tathagata's Shravaka disciples is...

also belong to it. Son of the family, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who studies this sutra belongs to the ranks of those Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas who have attained the ten bhumis. Those who turn away from this, either because they are seduced by material things, or for the sake of idle talk, or because they desire gain, respect, and praise, are merely hearing it. If they do not abandon this sutra, except for abandoning it out of arrogance, those other sentient beings will gradually attain the perfect enlightenment of the Buddhas, the Arhats. Son of the family, therefore, the four persons mentioned earlier are reliable, because they cannot possibly say that a sutra not spoken by the Buddha was spoken by the Buddha; this is impossible. Therefore, they are reliable. Even if only one of these four persons is present, you should make offerings to him and protect him. Question: How should one make offerings to him? Answer: That person is one who gives up his life to impart the sacred Dharma, so you should learn from him how to protect the sacred Dharma. After learning, you should also make offerings to that teacher. I have also taught in the Hearer Vehicle: Whether old or young, Whoever causes you to realize the Dharma, Like a Brahmin's sacrificial fire, You should respectfully bow down to him. Whether old or young, Whoever causes you to realize the Dharma, Like the actions towards the great powerful deity, You should respectfully bow down to him. This is what I have taught. Question: It is proper to make offerings to the teacher, but it is not proper for an elderly, disciplined monk to bow down to a young monk; this needs to be discussed. If an elderly monk learns from a young monk, should he also bow down to the young monk? If he must bow down to the young monk, then that elderly monk is not a disciplined monk. Furthermore, there is something to discuss: if the elderly monk is an immoral monk, and the young monk is a disciplined monk, and one can realize the truth of the Dharma from him, then should the young monk suddenly
