It is not. The bodhisattva-mahasattvas of the eighth bhumi are secretly prophesied by the Tathagatas to become Buddhas, so it is a prophecy. For the stream-enterer and the once-returner, it is impossible to abandon the holy Dharma after obtaining it, and it is also impossible to show others self-made words, various letters, and complete adherence to servants, etc., which were not spoken by the Buddha. Although belonging to the ranks of stream-enterers and once-returners, they are not true stream-enterers and once-returners. Similarly, bodhisattva-mahasattvas who have attained the first, second, and third bhumis are prophesied to become Buddhas in the realm of the Buddha through explicit prophecy. The so-called non-returner refers to one who, after obtaining this Dharma, cannot abandon it, and it is also impossible to show others self-made sutras, various letters, and adherence to servants, etc., which are not reasonable and not spoken by the Buddha. Sudden near afflictions cannot harm him, nor can inner afflictions harm him. He will not conceal the Tathagatagarbha and cannot teach the Dharma. Sudden illnesses caused by the poisonous snakes of the four elements cannot harm him. He neither speaks of self nor can he cut off those who speak of no-self, completely abandoning worldly self, and even when doing worldly things, he can live in harmony with the world. He cannot make other vehicles that are not Mahayana flourish. He does not hold the body of eighty kinds of insects and great faults. Having completely abandoned desire, it is impossible for him to have seminal emission even in dreams. Even if he sees the fear of death coming, he will not be afraid. Such a person is called a non-returner, the third type of person. Because he will definitely not return, he is called a non-returner. It can also be said that this person has attained the fruit of non-return.

It should not be so. The previously stated qualities still exist, and even if born here, one will not be tainted by the previously stated faults. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva acts in the manner of आने-जाने (Sanskrit Romanization: āne-jāne, coming and going), but is still counted among the non-returners. Because they are prophesied to become Buddhas as soon as they generate Bodhicitta, and they will become Buddhas not long after generating Bodhicitta, such a person is the third type of person. The Arhat who has exhausted defilements is the fourth type of person. The term Arhat means without afflictions, having abandoned burdens, having accomplished one's own purpose, having achieved meaning, and having attained the ten bhumis. There are also other broader meanings, such as being prophesied by receiving the prophecy of tolerance of the unborn Dharma, and being able to manifest the forms that one is capable of manifesting as one wishes, and with the body with which one wishes to become a Buddha, becoming the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Complete Buddha. One who possesses these qualities is called an Arhat. In this great Mahayana Nirvana Sutra, these four types of people appear in the world for the benefit of many beings and for the happiness of many beings. They are like the Tathagata, the teachers of gods and humans, and all four are reliable individuals, models for the world. The petitioner said: These four types of people are not my standard, nor are they my refuge. Why is that? When the Bhagavan taught the householder Endowed with Radiance to subdue the Maras, he said: Even if a god, Mara, or Brahma comes in the form of a Buddha, identical to me, possessing the thirty-two major marks, the eighty minor marks, a fathom of light, and a face adorned with the urna hair, you should subdue him. I allow you to do so. Evil one, do not remain here in the form of an Arhat, like an Arhat. Evil one, you lie in the sky, with fire burning from your left chest and water pouring down from the right side.

Moreover, blazing like fire, possessing splendor and glory, even if smoke fills the air, I will not listen to your words! I do not believe! Even if you expound the nine branches of scripture, I will not have faith! Son of good family, if you doubt in this way, I will also subdue you! Son of good family, for example, if at night in the darkness, one senses that a dog thief has come, the mistress or servant says to him, 'Dog thief, unless I kill you, quickly leave!' When that dog thief hears these words, he runs away and never comes to that house again. Likewise, you should subdue the evil demon like a dog thief! If you do not do so, before I bind you with the five bonds, quickly leave!' Say these words to him! As soon as he hears these words, he will turn back like a dog thief. Those who subdue demons in this way are holy, and reside only in the presence of Nirvana. The Blessed One spoke from the householder Gadangchen and taught about subduing demons. Blessed One, why do these four individuals remain as a refuge? I do not listen to them, nor do I trust them! The Blessed One said: Son of good family, it is just so. What I have said is indeed true. However, my saying of subduing demons is for the sake of those children of the Hearer Vehicle who possess the eye of flesh, and not for the sake of the Great Vehicle practitioners. Even among the Hearer Vehicle practitioners, there are those who possess the divine eye, but they are counted as having the eye of flesh. Even among the Great Vehicle practitioners, there are those who possess the eye of flesh, but they are counted as having the eye of the Buddha. Why is that? Because they hold the Suchness of the Great Vehicle, the Buddha Vehicle's sutras. Son of good family, furthermore, for example, there are some brave men who are famous in the region, courageous and bold. Some cowards rely on them, and when the cowards learn bravery from the brave men, they are admonished: 'Hey, you brave man!'
