Just as one becomes happy and the breath ceases from suffering, similarly, many sentient beings, just like that, become happy and the breath ceases from endless suffering. They manifest in the world, escape and flee from all forms and sounds of afflictions, fearing and dreading death. They run using every means, going to the abode of the righteous, the dwelling place of the Tathagata Shakyamuni, as an unparalleled refuge, where the breath ceases. When those breaths cease and they attain happiness, that is Nirvana, the cessation of endless suffering. Chapter Seven. Then, one of the same lineage as the Bhagavan Light Protector, spoke thus: If that is so, then the Arhats, the perfectly enlightened Buddhas, the all-knowing ones, will not attain the supreme bliss of Nirvana by completely abandoning their bodies, for the sake of not having (death). Those who have taken refuge in the Three Jewels will not attain Nirvana. The Blessed One said: Just as people come to the presence of one who has awakened from unconsciousness, asking, 'Have you awakened? Are you well?' And that person, having awakened, says, 'I have awakened and am well.' Just as awakening from unconsciousness, if one is liberated from all twenty-five existences, one attains the complete Nirvana of the Buddha. What is called supreme bliss is the manifold aspects of supreme bliss experienced through endless perception. That is complete Nirvana. That is liberation. That which is supremely stable, immovable, blissful, and constantly experienced, that is liberation. What is liberation, that is the Tathagata. Then, one of the same lineage as the Bhagavan Light Protector, spoke thus: Is that which is unborn and unceasing liberation? Is that the Tathagata? The Blessed One replied: Son of good family, it is indeed so, that is liberation. That is the Tathagata. He asked: Then, since the realm of space is also unborn and unproduced, is liberation also the same as that? Is the Tathagata also the same as that? The Blessed One replied: It is not like that. Liberation is not like the realm of space.

Yes. Please, what would it be like? He replied: Son of good family, for example, when birds like the Shyangshyangte'u or Kalapingka make sounds, would you say they sound like crows? He reported: World Honored One, it is not like that. The sounds of other birds cannot even be used as examples of their sounds. The sound of a crow is not even one hundredth of the sound of the Shyangshyangte'u and Kalapingka. It is not even one thousandth. It cannot be compared in number, part, example, or cause. Those birds are incomparable. World Honored One, the speech of the Thus-Gone One is also incomparable in terms of cause. He replied: Son of good family, well done, well done! Son of good family, you should say it like that, well said. Therefore, what is liberation is the Thus-Gone One. The cause and example of liberation do not exist in the world with gods, humans, and asuras. Although it is incomparable, it has such qualities because of the power to tame beings. It is shown by example like this. The example of liberation is the Thus-Gone One. Why? Because what is the Thus-Gone One is liberation. What is liberation is the Thus-Gone One. These two are inseparable and indistinguishable. Son of good family, for example, although it is incomparable, there are also instances of using the meaning of cause as a metaphor. For example, one might say, "Alas, your face is as beautiful as the full moon," or "The excellence of an elephant is like a snow mountain." But is the moon similar to the face? Is the face similar to the moon? Is the elephant similar to the mountain? Is the mountain similar to the elephant? Son of good family, similarly, although liberation is incomparable, it should be understood that here, for the sake of definitely liberating sentient beings, the metaphor is shown by the power of cause. The suchness of Dharma should also be understood as the suchness of Dharma by the power of cause. He reported: Why does the Thus-Gone One show two forms? He replied: Son of good family, again, for example, if someone takes a sword and thinks, "I will kill the Thus-Gone One, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha," and then tries to kill him. The Thus-Gone One does not show any anger, does not show any dismay, but remains joyful. Then, does that person commit an unforgivable crime?
