To do or not to do? Answer: From the perspective of things, it cannot be said that one has committed the five inexpiable sins. Why? Because the accumulated aggregates have not been destroyed, so from the perspective of things, it is not the commission of the five inexpiable sins. The body of the Tathagata does not even have the residue of accumulated aggregates; it is the realm of Dharma, how can it be killed? Therefore, only generating the intention to kill and seeking an opportunity can be said to be committing the five inexpiable sins. Here, one must rely on the power of cause to realize the suchness of Dharma. The Buddha said: Good son, well said, well said! I also intended to say the same thing. Good son, furthermore, here there is a wicked person who thinks, "I have not killed my mother," so in a monastery, watching as if on a battlefield of barley and wheat, the mother came there, and (the person) said, "You have taken my heart well, not coming!" Then, sharpening the knife, intending to kill the mother. In the interval of sharpening the knife, his mother was frightened and hid in a pile of straw. Then, that person, holding the knife, struck at the pile of straw, thinking, "Now my mother is dead." Because of fear of others, he did not carefully examine the straw. After that, the mother came out of the pile and left. Then, that person thought, "My mother is already dead," and was very happy in his heart. Can this be said to be committing the five inexpiable sins? Or not? Answer: It cannot be said that the mother was killed. Again, what is it? Is it that you wish to ask about the substance of the cause of the uninterrupted karma? The Buddha said: Destroying the aggregates of parents is what is called committing the five inexpiable sins, therefore, this is not committing the five inexpiable sins, but because the intention to kill the mother was generated, it is similar to committing the five inexpiable sins. Until the substances of the aggregates, realms, and sources are destroyed, it cannot be said that the commission of the five inexpiable sins is completed; here, one must rely on the power of cause to realize the suchness of Dharma. Answer: Blessed One, well said! Well said! Thus, relying on the power of cause to realize, and also relying on the power of cause not to realize. The Buddha said: Good son, likewise, I speak of liberation relying on the power of cause. From the perspective of cause, Nirvana is endowed with immeasurable qualities and is unparalleled. Likewise, completely

Entering into the Great Nirvana, beings also possess immeasurable merits. Now, the Tathagata demonstrates entering into Nirvana, therefore, the meaning of the Great Nirvana is just that. Question: Is the Tathagata not subject to exhaustion? We should regard the Tathagata as having endless life. The Buddha said: Well done! Well done! Those who protect the true Dharma should speak thus. Those who wish to resolve my doubts should do so. Thus, Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas teach the Dharma in these four ways. The fourth chapter is about Bodhisattvas teaching the Dharma in four ways. This "Great Nirvana Sutra" has four kinds of individuals who obtain the way of the true Dharma, expound the true Dharma, and serve as refuge, appearing in the world for the benefit and happiness of many beings. What are the four? Such a person with the nature of all defilements appears in the world for the happiness and benefit of many beings; this is the first type of individual. The individual who possesses the fruit of Stream-enterer and Once-returner is the second. The Non-returner is the third. The Arhat is the fourth; these four individuals are those who serve as refuge. The so-called ordinary being is one who, possessing morality, rituals, and virtues, expounds the Dharma, and for those who possess the Tathagata's lineage, initially promotes and understands its meaning, and conveys the message: this Dharma is about small desires, this Dharma is not about great desires, and proclaims the eight perceptions of a great man, and if faults occur, repents to others in order to correct them, and when practicing the Bodhisattva conduct, is proficient in the words of intent and expounds the true Dharma; this is the first type of individual, although belonging to the category of ordinary beings, but this ordinary being does not possess learning.
