For the sake of cremation. Because the lay devotees of Yama burning wood brought twice the amount, the Blessed One did not eat, and was extremely distressed as if he had lost a child, and stood up crying and sat down to one side. Moreover, at that time, the Licchavi youths residing in Vaishali, such as Pure Immaculate Essence, and all the Licchavi youths residing inside and outside the city, and all the vassal ministers residing in Jambudvipa, as many as the sands of the four branches of the Ganges River, were all skilled in protecting the Holy Dharma, endowed with morality, rituals, and virtues, and were like hail to those who slander the Holy Dharma and the marked evil ones. All of them thought like this: All our wealth, grains, storehouses, and granaries are for the purpose of making the nectar inexhaustible and for the nectar to remain. We should diligently protect the Holy Dharma. We should cut off the tongues of those who slander the Holy Dharma and have wrong views, they all vowed well. Those who are immoral and do not abide by morality are made to wear white clothes and made to do the work of householders, they all thought firmly. The thick Holy Dharma should be revered like a lama, they all vowed. Even if they have completely done what benefits the Sangha and makes it happy, they are not satisfied with it, and they desire to hear the Mahayana, and after hearing it, they also vow to teach it to others, they are all steadfast. They are all endowed with countless virtues such as these, such as the Licchavi youth named Pure Immaculate Essence, named Purified Obscuration, named Ganges Water Immaculate Blessing, and so on. Those Licchavi youths also helped each other, and each one carried firewood for cremation, the best sandalwood and agarwood, and eighty-four kotis of Yama burning wood, and twice the previous offerings, they proclaimed the offerings and went to the Blessed One. Each Licchavi youth carried an elephant

There were eighty-four thousand elephants, eighty-four thousand horses, eighty-four thousand chariots, and eighty-four thousand mani jewels, all prepared. In front of each elephant, there were held umbrellas, victory banners, flags, and large silk canopies appropriate to the size of the elephant. Among the umbrellas, even the smallest one had a circumference of one yojana. Among the large silk canopies, even the smallest one had a width of thirty-two yojanas. Among the victory banners, even the smallest one had a height of one hundred yojanas. Among the flags, even the smallest one reached a thousand yojanas. In this way, they came before the Blessed One with these offerings, bowed their heads at the feet of the Blessed One, and offered food, but the Blessed One did not speak and did not accept, so they became extremely sad, and disappointed, they stood up and, by the power of the Blessed One, rose to the height of seven palm trees and sat down. Furthermore, at that time, all the ministers, merchants, and householders of Jambudvipa, as numerous as the sands of the five rivers of the Ganges, all faithful to the Great Vehicle, endowed with pure discipline, rituals, and qualities, were like hail to those who slander the sacred Dharma. For example, the householder king named Vairochana, the king named Sustaining Beings, the king named Dharma Protector, and so on, also came there at that time. All of them overwhelmed the previous offerings with their own offerings, and offered the Blessed One with a great assembly of offerings, but because the Blessed One did not accept the food, they became extremely sad, and disappointed, they stood up and, by the power of the Blessed One, rose to the height of seven palm trees and sat down. Furthermore, at that time, except for King Ajatashatru, the king of Vaishali, Moon Immaculate Essence, and the attendants residing inside and outside the city, and all the cities of Jambudvipa, mountain villages, large towns, and the king of Kalunga, as numerous as the sands of the six rivers of the Ganges,

At that time, the assembly of forces with its four divisions also arrived. Each of those kings had eighty-eight trillion soldiers. They had elephants that always dripped sweat from their cheeks, and horses that were especially fast with the force of the wind. Whatever their offerings were, they were twice as good and much more numerous than the previous offerings. Carrying such offerings, the assembly of forces with its four divisions arrived. Among those offerings, even the smallest umbrella covered eighty yojanas in width. Among the banners, even the smallest extended to one hundred thousand yojanas. The ordinary banners also had a height of thirty yojanas. Thus, the kings of Vaishali, Moon of Immaculate Essence, Sunlight, and so forth, arrived at sunrise. They were like hail for the iconic evil ones who destroy the sacred Dharma, and by their power, they cause beings to abide in the sacred Dharma, and they thought, 'Our wealth, collections of grains, treasuries, and storehouses are for the sake of the sacred Dharma to abide.' We should be diligent in the sacred Dharma! They firmly vowed, 'We will cut off the tongues of those who slander the sacred Dharma from the root!' They desired the Great Vehicle and were full of love for all beings. Their offerings filled all places from Vaishali to the city of Kushinagar. The shadows of their umbrellas gathered together so that the sunlight did not strike. The fragrance of their food pervaded four yojanas. They requested the Bhagavan three times to partake of the food they had each prepared, but the Bhagavan did not accept the food, and they were displeased, rising and sitting to one side. Furthermore, at that time, except for the queen of King Ajatashatru, the queens of the kings of Vaishali, who were the most beautiful in the three realms, as well as the kings, merchants, and householders of Jambudvipa.
