If even all the heat were to disappear, then the Thus-Gone One would also become impermanent. It is impossible for iron to disappear along with its light. Similarly, it is impossible for the Thus-Gone One to become impermanent along with this great Nirvana. Just as the flames of iron can be counted, so too, the Thus-Gone One, having exhausted the afflictions accumulated over countless eons, becomes permanent, stable, and enduring. Thus, the Thus-Gone One who is completely liberated is permanent, stable, and enduring. The mire of desire means afflictions. Because one has crossed over the mire of afflictions through countless eons, it is not possible to establish the place of the Thus-Gone One in the complete Nirvana of the Thus-Gone One. Therefore: Those who have attained correct knowledge and liberation, Have crossed the mire of desire and the river, And have obtained unwavering bliss, There is nowhere to point to where they have gone. Question: Blessed One, what is this? Just as iron, once heated, becomes hot again when put back into the fire, if the Thus-Gone One were to become like that, he would become impermanent. Answer: The Thus-Gone One is permanent. Having become like fire himself, he ignites many sentient beings who are like iron with the fire of wisdom, thereby exhausting unreal afflictions. Question: Blessed One, well said! Well said! Please explain the permanence of the Thus-Gone One completely. Answer: Son of good family, again, for example, a wheel-turning king leaves his retinue of consorts and suddenly appears in another pleasure garden. When he goes there and enjoys himself, one should not think, "He is dead," when the king disappears from the retinue of consorts. Son of good family, similarly, the Thus-Gone One will not degenerate from the nature of reality. Like the king, one should not think in Jambudvipa that the Thus-Gone One has become impermanent and give rise to the thought of death. Just as the king goes from the retinue of consorts to the pleasure garden to enjoy himself,

Thus it is. The Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, also certainly emerges from the retinue of consorts who are the very aspect of afflictions. Without afflictions, the Bhagavan goes to a pleasure grove endowed with various dharanis and various flowers of the limbs of enlightenment. Then, the Tathagata, being free from afflictions, engages in play with various means of the body. Question: Please grant the reason for saying that the Tathagata will certainly cross the ocean of afflictions with countless billions of eons. Now, in the present manifest reality, the Tathagata enjoys sensual pleasures together with the mother of Rahula, and is also shown to be the father of Rahula. Therefore, the Tathagata has not necessarily crossed the river of sensual pleasures with countless billions of eons. Teaching: Son of good family, you say that the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, now manifestly enjoys sensual pleasures together with the mother of Rahula, and is also shown to be the father of Rahula. Therefore, do not say that the Tathagata has not necessarily crossed the river of sensual pleasures with countless billions of eons. Great Nirvana is called Great Permanence. Do not let your mind wander elsewhere, listen attentively, and after hearing, also explain it to others. Do not be afraid of it. A Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who abides in this Great Nirvana can place the king of mountains, Mount Sumeru, which is so high and so vast, into a mustard seed, and it will not harm the sentient beings who abide on Mount Sumeru. Those sentient beings will not know, "Where have we gone? Where have we been taken? Where have we been placed?" Other sentient beings will truly know and truly see that this Bodhisattva-Mahasattva has placed the king of mountains, Mount Sumeru, into a mustard seed and hidden it. Then, he will also place it back in its own place. The realm of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who abides in this great sutra is like that. Son of good family, that

Moreover, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who abides in the Great Nirvana can place the world realm of the three-thousand great-thousand world system into a mustard seed, without harming a single sentient being. Those sentient beings will not know or see where we have gone, where we have been taken, or where we have been placed. Other sentient beings will truly know and truly see: This one has done such a thing. Then they will put it back in its place. Son of good family, furthermore, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who abides in this Great Nirvana can place the world realm of the three-thousand great-thousand world system into his own pore, without harming a single sentient being. Those sentient beings will not know or see where we have gone, where we have been taken, or where we have been placed. Other sentient beings will truly know and truly see: This one has done such a thing. Son of good family, furthermore, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who abides in this Great Nirvana, while abiding in this world realm, can take the world realms of the ten directions with the tip of a needle like taking elm leaves, and throw them into other world realms, without harming a single sentient being. Those sentient beings will not know or see where we have gone, where we have been taken, or where we have been placed. Other sentient beings will truly know and truly see: This one has done such a thing. Then they will put it back in its place. Son of good family, furthermore, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva who abides in this Great Nirvana can take the world realms of the ten directions with his right hand, and like a potter's wheel, throw the world realm to the far beyond the number of atoms of dust, without harming a single sentient being. Those sentient beings will not know or see where we have gone, where we have been taken, or where we have been placed. Other sentient beings will
