I, hearing that those who hold impure things such as cows and buffaloes, preach evil doctrines, and those who harbor hatred for those who break vows, generated a mind of killing. Then, the parties of those who break vows gathered together, holding various weapons in their hands, and rushed towards that monk. At that time, I was reborn as a king named Srizhin. When the king heard of this, in order to protect the Dharma, he went to that monk and fought with them. After that, those people could not defeat that Dharma speaker. The king's body was pierced by swords, short spears, sharp blades, single-pointed vajras, and arrows, without a single gap, not even the size of a mustard seed. After that, when that monk saw the king become like that, he said, "Good! Protecting the Dharma should be done like this. You will become a person with immeasurable merit." After that, the king heard the words of that monk, and after he died, he was reborn in the pure land of Akshobhya Buddha. There, all the sentient beings who rejoiced, and all those who participated in the battle, also attained Bodhi. In the pure land of Akshobhya Buddha called Manifest Joy, an image called Akshobhya Buddha also appeared. The monk Buddha-given also died after the king died, and became the foremost of the Shravakas in the teachings of Akshobhya Buddha. That king also became the second Shravaka. Therefore, when the Dharma declines, one should protect the Dharma. The king at that time was me. That monk was Kashyapa Buddha, and he has completely passed into Nirvana. Therefore, the fruit of protecting the Dharma is immeasurable. Because the fruit is completely pure, I have also become like adorned with many colorful peacock feathers, and I have attained the indestructible body and the Dharmakaya. Praying to those of the same lineage as Mahakashyapa, the Tathagata has an eternal body like words carved in stone.

So! The Buddha declared: Son of good family, therefore, those who wish to protect the sacred Dharma, whether they are monks, nuns, laymen, or laywomen, should protect them wherever they are. The fruit of a layman protecting the sacred Dharma is vast. Son of good family, therefore, monks should be led by laymen who carry weapons in their hands. For this Mahayana, laymen should not take the five precepts, but for the sake of protecting the sacred Dharma, they should carry weapons and protect the monks. May I ask, are those monks who associate and travel with laymen who carry weapons teachers? Or are they not teachers? Are they breakers of vows? Or are they not breakers of vows? The Blessed One declared: Son of good family, after the Tathagata passes into complete Nirvana, there will be internal strife and the invasion of countries. In that evil age, due to the calamity of famine, most people will become monks and shave their heads. They will expel and kill those monks who possess discipline, rituals, merits, and perfect conduct. At that time, how should monks with discipline travel in villages, cities, and secluded settlements? In such times, I allow monks with discipline who have become teachers to carry weapons in their hands to protect their lives when traveling on the road. Laymen, householders, kings, and ministers who carry weapons to protect monks with discipline, I also say that is discipline, but do not kill. Carrying weapons to deter is the most wise discipline. The teacher is one who teaches the key points of the Great Vehicle, has right view, abandons unsuitable umbrellas, containers of ghee, various fruits, does not rely on kings and ministers, does not speak pleasing and flattering words to donors for the sake of gain, and

One who has perfect conduct, eliminates things of improper practice, possesses discipline and virtuous Dharma, holds wisdom like the ocean, does not desire appearance, attire, gain, and respect, is content and shows frugality in utensils, is called a teacher. He prevents those who desire retinues, gain, and respect, and who mingle with their own retinue of the Sangha. There are also three types of Sangha: the Sangha that is corrupted and mixed with immoral conduct, the childish Sangha, and the self-natured Sangha. He prevents the Sangha that is corrupted and mixed with immoral conduct. The so-called Sangha that is corrupted and mixed with immoral conduct is one that only associates with those who are immoral, does not punish them, and acts together with them for the sake of trivial matters. Even if one is disciplined, because one lives with them, one is counted among those who are immoral. This is called corrupted and mixed with immoral conduct, and because he can prevent improper behavior, he is called a teacher. The so-called childish Sangha refers to the people of the monastery, those with little merit, and the ignorant. During the times of distinguishing occasions and holding Uposatha, they only purify their own few retinues, but do not purify those who are immoral, and instead live mixed with them. This is called the childish Sangha, and because he can eliminate the improper behavior of those ignorant ones, he is called a teacher. The self-natured Sangha is one that cannot be destroyed even by millions of demons. That is the Sangha of Bodhisattvas, which is naturally pure. He who can prevent the two types of Sangha that are corrupted is called a teacher. The holder of the Vinaya means that he knows the basis of learning according to the object to be tamed, and he also knows the great majesty and the small majesty. He does not enforce what is not Vinaya, but enforces the Vinaya. If you ask how to know the object to be tamed, the Bodhisattva should
