Equal to being without a place, equal to being without birth, equal to being without an object of focus, equal to being without equal. Utterly peaceful, near to peaceful, without support, immeasurable, transforming behavior, cutting off all irreversible fixations, without superiority, proclaiming non-duality. By way of non-discrimination and by way of non-combination, it is the very nature of reality. Not long, not round, not thoroughly divided by aggregates, not thoroughly divided by elements, not thoroughly divided by sense bases, without conceptualization of conditioned phenomena, without a place for conceptualization of conditioned phenomena, without increase, without decrease, immeasurable, not immeasurable, sharp, not sharp, unofferable, not unofferable. Thus, thus, the body of the Tathagata is endowed with immeasurable and inconceivable qualities. No one knows, has seen, has heard, has distinguished, has understood. Not existent, inexpressible in words, not included in the realm of the world, not arising from cause, nor arising from absence of cause. That body, at all times, cannot be understood by characteristics of discrimination and non-discrimination, and by the basis of characteristics, characteristics, enumeration, and comparison. It neither goes to nirvana nor does it not go. The Tathagata is endowed with immeasurable qualities. The body of the Tathagata, of the same lineage as Mahakashyapa, is engaged in being comprehended by the Tathagata himself through the objects of characteristics, but all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas cannot. How could such a Tathagata, endowed with such qualities and not being a body of flesh, become sick, harmed, or destroyed like a clay pot? Showing destruction, sickness, and passing into nirvana should be seen as being for the sake of taming those to be tamed. Therefore, from now on, keep in mind that the body of the Tathagata is indestructible and hard like a diamond. Also, show to others that it is not a body of flesh. Understand that the Tathagata is the Dharmakaya.

Please write it down. The great light protector and those of the same lineage reported: World Honored One, since that is the case, where would there be sickness, impermanence, and destruction for the Tathagata who possesses such qualities? From now on, the Tathagata is the Dharmakaya. In order to declare to others that it is constant, stable, solid, and peaceful, how will this indestructible body like a vajra be accomplished? By what cause will such a body be accomplished? The World Honored One said: My body like this is accomplished by the cause of the merit of protecting the holy Dharma. Son of the lineage, the layperson who protects the holy Dharma should not take the five precepts. Nor should the discipline of the layperson be practiced. In order to protect the monks who possess discipline, rituals, and virtues, one should carry bows and arrows, swords, and short spears in hand. Reporting: Those monks who do not dwell with protectors, but alone spread a mat under a tree, those are called monks. Those who dwell with protectors are called householders who touch heads. The World Honored One said: Son of the lineage, do not say that about householders who touch heads. Here, some monks sit on a grass mat, and after eating, sit alone in one place without speaking, practicing meditation, and also observing the nature of the body. To the beings who come, they also speak of giving, of discipline, of merit, of the ripening of merit, and teach the Dharma of contentment and taming, but they do not roar like a lion. Nor do they possess a retinue like a lion. Nor do they declare in order to punish those with signs of breaking vows. Such a monk has not entered the Dharma for the benefit of all beings, nor has he entered for his own benefit, because his afflictions are weak, he merely possesses discipline and practices pure conduct. A monk who possesses discipline, another monk who possesses virtuous Dharma, sits on a grass mat from one place to another, roaring like a lion, for the benefit and happiness of all beings.

The nine branches of the sacred teachings are the Sutra section, the Geya section, the Vyakarana section, the Gatha section, the Udana section, the Itivrttaka section, the Jataka section, the Vaipulya section, and the Adbhutadharma section. This sutra states that monks who possess inferior items such as slaves, servants, cows, and buffaloes should be disciplined with punishment, which is appropriate for our situation. In a certain sutra, it is also said that for renunciants possessing inferior items, the Blessed One had a certain king discipline them with punishment, and had those who violated the precepts wear gray clothes. Thus declaring, and roaring the lion's roar in this way, those who violated the precepts did not create confusion, and even if they were put to death, I would say that that monk is one who possesses discipline and engages in benefiting himself and others. Therefore, for the sake of kings, ministers, and lay practitioners to protect the Dharma, I also allow the protection of monks, and also allow the punishment of ascetic practitioners. Those who violate the precepts are called ascetic practitioners, and this is not a respectful term for those who possess discipline. Son of good family, in the past, countless eons ago, in this city of Kushinagar, the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha, named Joyful Buddha, appeared in the world. At that time, this world became as vast as the Sukhavati paradise, and the beings at that time were like the bodhisattvas of Sukhavati, not weakened by hunger. Then, that Tathagata resided there for millions of years, and then passed into nirvana in this city and this place. Then, his teachings lasted for millions of years. When forty years remained of the teachings, at the time when the sacred Dharma was declining, there appeared a monk named Buddha-given, who possessed many attendants, roared the lion's roar, and taught the Dharma of the nine branches of the sacred teachings. He (referring to the monk Buddha-given) treated slaves and servants
