Then, the Buddha, the Blessed One, is said to be non-dual. How is it without difference? To the one who says it exists, it is also said to exist. To the one who says it does not exist, it is also said not to exist, this is the same meaning. Brahmin, the Buddha, the Blessed One, explains with two ways of speaking, thereby clarifying the words spoken in one way. How does speaking in two ways clarify what is spoken in one way? For example, from the two words "eye" and "form" arises the one word called "consciousness," and from "mind" to "dharma" should be understood in the same way. The Brahmin asked: Gautama, the meaning of the words you speak is well explained. We do not understand how speaking in two ways clarifies speaking in one way. Then, the Blessed One spoke to them about the Four Noble Truths. That is to say, the truth of suffering is both two and one. Likewise, up to the truth of the path, two is also one. The Brahmin asked: Blessed One, I understand. The Blessed One said: Son of good family, how do you understand? The Brahmin asked: Blessed One, the so-called truth of suffering is two for all vulgar ordinary people, and one for the noble ones. Likewise, I understand up to the truth of the path. The Blessed One said: You understand well. The Brahmin asked: Blessed One, having heard this, I have obtained the correct view, and now I take refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. I pray that you, with great compassion, will liberate us well. Then, the Blessed One said to the venerable Kaundinya: You speak, shave your hair and beard, and go forth from home to homelessness. At that time, the venerable Kaundinya, according to the Buddha's teaching, shaved his hair and beard, and two things fell away. What two? Hair and beard, and defilements. In that place, he attained the fruit of Arhatship. At that time, another wandering ascetic named Sita asked this: Is the Nirvana spoken of by Gautama eternal? That

So it is. The wanderer Sita asked: Gautama, is the absence of afflictions called Nirvana? So it is. The wanderer Sita asked: Gautama, there are four kinds of non-existence in the world. What are the four? Non-arising is called non-existence, for example, a pot does not exist before it is made; non-existence after destruction is also called non-existence, for example, a pot does not exist after it is broken; one does not exist in the other is called non-existence, for example, a cow does not have a horse, and a horse does not have a cow; eternal non-existence is called non-existence, for example, the hair of a tortoise and the horn of a rabbit. Gautama, if the absence of afflictions is called Nirvana, then Nirvana is non-existent. If it is non-existent, why do you say that there is permanence, bliss, self, and purity? The Blessed One replied: Good son, Nirvana is not non-existent from the beginning, like a pot that does not exist during production; nor is it non-existent after destruction, like a pot that does not exist after it is broken; nor is it eternally non-existent, like the hair of a tortoise and the horn of a rabbit; but it is in accordance with one does not exist in the other. Good son, as you say, a cow does not have a horse, but it cannot be said that a cow does not exist either. A horse does not have a cow, but it cannot be said that a horse does not exist either. Nirvana is also like this, there is no Nirvana in afflictions, and there are no afflictions in Nirvana, therefore it is said that one does not exist in the other. Sita also asked: Gautama, if one does not exist in the other is called Nirvana, then in one does not exist in the other there is no permanence, bliss, self, and purity, why does Gautama say that there is permanence, bliss, self, and purity in Nirvana? The Blessed One replied: As you say, one does not exist in the other is the absence of three kinds, cows and horses are non-existent before and exist later, so it is called non-existent before. It will also be destroyed after existence, so it is called non-existent due to destruction. One does not exist in the other is just as you say, good
