If all dharmas had intrinsic existence, why are three aspects posited in the world? From the positing of three aspects, it is evident that all do not have intrinsic existence. Son of good family, if all dharmas had intrinsic existence, then all dharmas would have their own distinct intrinsic existence. If there were a single, definitively fixed intrinsic existence, why would sugarcane produce juice, sugar, molasses, wine, and ice wine? If the intrinsic existence were one, why would those things arise? If such things arise from a single entity, then it should be understood that the intrinsic existence of all dharmas is definitively one, and it is impossible for each to have a single intrinsic existence. Son of good family, if the intrinsic existence of all dharmas were definitively one, why would noble ones be able to consume sugarcane juice, sugar, and molasses, but not be able to consume wine, and then be able to consume it again when it becomes ice wine? Therefore, it should be understood that there is no definitively fixed intrinsic existence. If there is no definitively fixed intrinsic existence, how can it be said that it does not arise from causes and conditions? Son of good family, how can you give an example of saying that all dharmas have intrinsic existence? If an example can be given, then it should be understood that all dharmas do not have intrinsic existence. If there is intrinsic existence, then it should be understood that there is no example to be given. In the world, wise and intelligent people give examples, therefore, it should be understood that all dharmas do not have intrinsic existence and do not have a definitively fixed intrinsic existence. Son of good family, as you say, whether the body comes first or the afflictions come first, that is also unreasonable. Why is that? If I say the body comes first, you might agree with me, or you might argue that the body does not come first. Son of good family, the body and afflictions of all sentient beings both have no before or after; they exist at the same time. Although they exist at the same time, the body arises from the cause of afflictions, but afflictions do not arise from the cause of the body. If you think, for example, that a person's two eyes are also obtained at the same time and do not depend on each other, that is, the right eye does not depend on the left eye, and the left eye does not depend on the right eye, like afflictions and...

If you think the same way in your mind, that is also not right. Why is that? Son of good family, in this world, what is visible to the eye, the essence and appearance of fire, exist simultaneously. However, appearance is due to essence; without essence, there is no appearance. Son of good family, if you think in your mind that the body is not pre-existent, so it has no cause, that is also not right. Why is that? If you say that the body is not pre-existent, so it has no cause and conditions, then you should also say that all phenomena have no cause and conditions. If you don't say that because it is not visible, but now earthenware and so on are manifestly visible as arising from causes and conditions, why don't you say that? Just like earthenware, the causes and conditions of the pre-existent body should also be understood in the same way. Son of good family, whether visible or invisible, all phenomena arise from causes and conditions and have no inherent nature. Son of good family, if you say that all phenomena have inherent nature and no causes and conditions, then why do you say there are five great elements? The inherent nature of the five great elements is itself the cause and condition. Son of good family, the causes and conditions of the five great elements are like that, but it is unreasonable to say that all phenomena are also in accordance with the causes and conditions of the five great elements. For example, in worldly talk, it is said that all renunciants strive to uphold morality, so butchers and so on also strive to uphold morality in the same way. It becomes like saying that. Son of good family, as you say, the five great elements have a definite inherent nature, but in my view, that inherent nature is changing and not definite. Son of good family, in your doctrine, butter, beeswax, and propolis are called earth. That earth that you establish is not definite; sometimes it can become like water, and sometimes it can become like earth. Therefore, it cannot be said to be inherently solid. Son of good family, in your doctrine, pigments, lead, copper, iron, gold, and silver are called fire, and it has four inherent natures: when flowing, it is called water; when moving, it is called wind; when hot,
