If so, why isn't the nature of the five great elements impermanent? If the five great elements are permanent, then worldly things should also be permanent. Therefore, it is not right for you to say that the five great elements have their own nature and are not produced by causes and conditions, so all dharmas are the same as the five great elements. Son of the lineage, as you say, it is also not right to say that there is a nature in the definite place of necessity. Why is that? Because it is from cause and condition that the name is obtained. If the name is obtained from cause, then the meaning is also obtained from cause. How is the name obtained from cause? For example, what is worn on the neck is called a necklace, what is worn on the throat is called a collar, what is worn on the hand is called a bracelet, what is placed on a cart is called a wheel, and what burns from wood and grass is called the fire of wood and grass. Son of the lineage, when a tree has not yet grown, it does not have the nature of a bow and arrow or a spear, but through causes and conditions, it is made into a bow and arrow or a spear. Therefore, it is unreasonable to say that all dharmas have their own nature. Son of the lineage, as you say, it is also not right that a frog, although born from a field, goes to water by its own nature, and that a calf sucks milk by its own nature as soon as it is born. Why is that? Going to water is not a cause and condition, and if both are the same as cause and condition, why doesn't it go into the fire? A calf sucking milk by its own nature as soon as it is born is not a cause and condition, and if both are the same as not being a cause and condition, why doesn't it suck on a horn? Son of the lineage, if all dharmas have their own nature, then there is no benefit in teaching and learning, and it cannot be established. Why is that? Because it now appears that there is benefit in teaching and learning, therefore it should be known that nature does not exist. Son of the lineage, if all dharmas have their own nature, then it is also unreasonable for all Brahmins to kill sheep to sacrifice to the gods in order to purify the actions of the body. If purification can be achieved through sacrifice, then it should also be known that nature does not exist. Son of the lineage, there are three kinds of worldly speech, namely, action, agent, and what is done.
