It is called Gapa. In this way, one will eventually obtain the fruit through these eight dharmas, hence it is called Nirvana, and it is also called the ultimate. Son of good family, furthermore, faith is ordination after generating the mind of enlightenment. Contact is performing the actions of petition and the four activities, that is the cause. Grasping is guarding the two types of precepts, namely the Pratimoksha precepts and the precepts of complete purity of the root, that is feeling and complete grasping. Generation is diligently practicing the four dhyanas. Master is the fruit of stream-enterer and the fruit of once-returner. Helmsman is the fruit of non-returner. Victor is the fruit of Arhat. Truthful one is the fruit of Pratyekabuddha. Ultimate one is the fruit of unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. Son of good family, furthermore, faith is consciousness. Contact is the six sense bases. Gathering is feeling. Generation is ignorance. Master is name and form. Helmsman is desire. Victor is grasping. Truthful one is existence. Ultimate one is birth, old age, sickness, and death. Bodhisattva Light Protector asked: Blessed One, what are the differences between root, cause, and generation? The Blessed One replied: Root refers to the initial generation of the mind of enlightenment. Cause refers to the uninterrupted continuation of similarity. Generation refers to the arising of similarity after the cessation of similarity. Son of good family, furthermore, root refers to the doer. Cause refers to the fruit. Generation refers to the need. Son of good family, although there is a ripening fruit in the future, it is called cause because it has not been experienced. When it is experienced, it is called generation. Son of good family, furthermore, root refers to feeling. Obtaining is the cause. Need is generation. Son of good family, in this sutra, root refers to the path of seeing. Cause refers to the path of meditation. Generation refers to the path of no more learning. Son of good family, furthermore, root refers to the correct cause. Cause refers to skillful means, and through skillful means, one can obtain the fruit.

became a teacher. It is called being born from obtaining the fruit. Bodhisattva Drime Shonnu (持光) further inquired: "Venerable One, as you said, attaining the ultimate is called Nirvana. Is it possible to attain Nirvana?" The Blessed One replied: "Son of good family, whether it is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, a Bhikshu, a Bhikshuni, a Upasaka, or a Upasika, if they diligently practice the ten perceptions, they should know that they can attain Nirvana. What are the ten? They are: perceiving impermanence, perceiving suffering, perceiving selflessness, perceiving abandoning food, perceiving non-attachment to all the world, perceiving death, perceiving many faults, perceiving abandonment, perceiving cessation, and perceiving absence of craving. Son of good family, whether it is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, a Bhikshu, a Bhikshuni, a Upasaka, or a Upasika, if they diligently practice these ten perceptions, they will definitely attain Nirvana in the end. Therefore, without relying on others, one can understand good and non-good, etc. This is the true Bhikshu, and so are the Upasaka and Upasika. Bodhisattva Drime Shonnu inquired: "Venerable One, how does one diligently practice perceiving impermanence, from Bodhisattva to Upasika?" The Blessed One replied: "Son of good family, there are two types of Bodhisattvas: those who have initially generated the mind of enlightenment and those who diligently strive for enlightenment. There are also two types of perceiving impermanence: gross and subtle. When a Bodhisattva who has initially generated the mind of enlightenment perceives impermanence, they should think like this: There are also two types of things in the world: internal and external. Thus, internal things are impermanent, changing and transforming. My body, from the initial birth, to youth, adolescence, old age, death, etc., the times and degrees are different. Therefore, internal things should be known as impermanent, should be known as impermanent. Furthermore, one should think like this:
