Oṃ! Son of lineage, a wise and intelligent person, having thoroughly understood the eight sufferings, gradually contemplates the cause of suffering. The so-called cause of suffering is craving and ignorance. Craving and ignorance have two aspects: seeking the body and seeking possessions. Both seeking the body and seeking possessions are painful. Therefore, it should be understood that craving and ignorance are the cause of suffering. Son of lineage, besides craving and ignorance, there are also two aspects: internal and external. Among these, the internal causes the formation of the body, while the external causes growth and development. Furthermore, the internal causes the formation of the body, while the external causes the fruition of karma. Therefore, cutting off internal craving will cut off karma, and cutting off external craving will cut off the fruition. Among these, internal craving causes the arising of suffering in the future, while external craving causes the arising of suffering in the present. Therefore, a wise and intelligent person will realize that craving is the cause of suffering. Having thus realized the cause of suffering, one gradually contemplates the ripening of the fruit of suffering. The so-called fruit of suffering is grasping. The fruit of craving is called grasping, and the cause and condition of grasping lead to craving for internal and external things, thereby experiencing the suffering of craving. Son of lineage, a wise and intelligent person will realize that grasping arises from the condition of craving, and existence arises from the condition of grasping. If one cuts off both craving and grasping, one will not create karma and will not experience much suffering. Therefore, a wise and intelligent person diligently practices the Noble Eightfold Path in order to cut off the suffering of craving. Son of lineage, if someone thoroughly understands in this way, I call it pure conduct. It is like having the supreme king of medicine in the afflicted body of sentient beings. Just as even though a snow mountain has poison, it also has supreme medicine. Bodhisattva Light-Holder also asked: Bhagavan, how can one have completely pure conduct?

说如是。世尊说：种姓之子，名为一切法。菩萨光护又禀白：世尊，所谓一切法，其义未定。何以故？如来曾说，间杂是善与非善。间杂是于四念住随念。间杂是十二处。间杂是善知识。间杂是十二缘起。间杂是有情。间杂是正见与邪见。间杂是十二部经。间杂是二谛。我亦于此处，若说完全清净的梵行是一切法，那么何者等可称为一切法？世尊说：善哉！甚善！种姓之子，此大涅槃经，殊胜之法，名为一切法的珍宝之藏。譬如大海是一切珍宝的来源，此涅槃经亦复如是，是所有词义的意旨所说的精要。种姓之子，譬如须弥山王是一切众多药材的来源，此经亦复如是，是菩萨戒律的来源。种姓之子，譬如虚空是一切事物的处所，此经亦复如是，是一切善法的处所。种姓之子，譬如猛烈的风无人能够束缚，菩萨精勤于此经的一切也与之相同，不能被烦恼的非善法所束缚。种姓之子，譬如金刚坚不可摧，此经亦复如是，虽有众多外道邪见也不能摧毁。种姓之子，譬如恒河沙无人能够穷尽。

So be it. The Blessed One said: Son of good family, it is called all dharmas. The Bodhisattva Light Protector again inquired: Blessed One, the meaning of what is called all dharmas is not definite. Why is that? The Thus-gone One has said that the intervals are good and non-good. The intervals are the mindfulness of the four close placements. The intervals are the twelve sources. The intervals are good spiritual friends. The intervals are the twelve links of dependent origination. The intervals are sentient beings. The intervals are right view and wrong view. The intervals are the twelve divisions of scripture. The intervals are the two truths. I also, here, if I say that the completely pure conduct is all dharmas, then what and so on can be called all dharmas? The Blessed One said: Good, very good! Son of good family, this great Nirvana Sutra, the supreme Dharma, is called the treasure of jewels of all dharmas. Just as the ocean is the source of all jewels, this Nirvana Sutra is also the same, it is the essence spoken with the intention of all the meanings of words. Son of good family, just as Mount Meru, the king of mountains, is the source of all many medicines, this Sutra is also the same, it is the source of the Bodhisattva's precepts. Son of good family, just as the sky is the place of all things, this Sutra is also the same, it is the place of all virtuous dharmas. Son of good family, just as the strong wind cannot be bound by anyone, all Bodhisattvas who diligently practice this Sutra are also the same, they cannot be bound by the non-virtuous dharmas of afflictions. Son of good family, just as the vajra cannot be broken by anything, this Sutra is also the same, although there are many heretical wrong views, they cannot be destroyed. Son of good family, just as the sands of the Ganges River cannot be exhausted by anyone.

此经的意义也与此相同，无人能够数清。种姓之子，此经将成为菩萨们的法幢，犹如帝释天神的幢幡。种姓之子，此经犹如前往大涅槃城的商人，犹如大导师带领众多商人进入大海。种姓之子，此经将成为菩萨们法之光明的照耀，犹如世间的太阳和月亮驱散黑暗。种姓之子，此经将成为被疾病折磨的众生的良药，犹如香山上生出药王，平息疾病的痛苦。种姓之子，此经将成为所有邪见者的拐杖，譬如所有弱小者都因此而站立起来。种姓之子，此经将成为所有邪恶罪孽的桥梁，犹如世间的桥梁度脱一切。种姓之子，此经将成为二十五有中被烦恼所困扰者的清凉荫凉，犹如世间的伞或遮阳物遮蔽酷热的阳光。种姓之子，此经是无畏的大国王，能够摧毁所有邪恶的烦恼魔军，犹如狮子王驯服所有野兽。种姓之子，此经是伟大的明咒，能够摧毁所有邪恶的烦恼鬼魔，犹如世间的咒师驱除鬼魔。种姓之子，此经是无与伦比的冰雹或霜冻，能够摧毁轮回的所有果实，犹如世间的冰雹或霜冻摧毁所有果实。种姓之子，此经将成为戒律之眼受损的良药，犹如世间名为“安膳那”的药物，对所有眼疾都有益处。种姓之子，此经是所有善法

The meaning of this sutra is also the same, no one can count it. Son of the lineage, this sutra will become the Dharma banner of the Bodhisattvas, like the banner of Indra, the lord of the gods. Son of the lineage, this sutra is like a merchant going to the great city of Nirvana, like a great leader leading many merchants into the great ocean. Son of the lineage, this sutra will become the light of Dharma for the Bodhisattvas, like the sun and moon in the world dispelling darkness. Son of the lineage, this sutra will become a good medicine for sentient beings tormented by disease, like the king of medicines arising on the fragrant mountain, pacifying the suffering of disease. Son of the lineage, this sutra will become the crutch of all those with wrong views, just as all the weak stand up because of it. Son of the lineage, this sutra will become the bridge for all evil deeds, just as the bridge in the world delivers all. Son of the lineage, this sutra will become the cool shade for those tormented by afflictions in the twenty-five existences, like the umbrella or canopy in the world shielding the scorching sun. Son of the lineage, this sutra is the great king of fearlessness, who can destroy all evil armies of afflictions, just as the lion king subdues all wild animals. Son of the lineage, this sutra is the great mantra of knowledge, which can destroy all evil demons of afflictions, just as the mantra practitioner in the world exorcises demons. Son of the lineage, this sutra is the unparalleled hail or frost, which can destroy all the fruits of samsara, just as the hail or frost in the world destroys all fruits. Son of the lineage, this sutra will become a good medicine for the impaired eye of discipline, like the medicine called "Anjana" in the world, which is beneficial for all eye diseases.
