It is done. Therefore, wise and intelligent people should cultivate the Noble Eightfold Path in order to eliminate non-virtuous thoughts. This is also called pure conduct. Just as in a snowy mountain, even if there is poisonous grass, there is also excellent medicine, so too, in the vile body of sentient beings, there is the excellent king of medicine. Furthermore, son of good family, wise and intelligent people, having understood desire in this way, gradually examine karma. Why is that? Wise and intelligent people think like this: feeling, perception, contact, and desire are afflictions. Afflictions create birth but do not create experience. When afflictions go together with karma, they create both birth and experience, becoming two aspects. Therefore, wise and intelligent people should thoroughly examine karma. Karma is also of three types: body, speech, and mind. Son of good family, the two karmas of body and speech are also called karma, and also called the result of karma. Mind alone is called karma, but not called result. Thus, due to the cause of karma, it is called karma. Son of good family, the two karmas of body and speech are also called external karma. Mind is also called internal karma. These three types of karma, being associated with afflictions, therefore transform into two: the karma of creating birth and the karma of creating experience. Son of good family, the most accurate karma is the karma of mind. The karma of time is the karma of body and speech. Among them, what arises first is the karma of mind. What arises from the karma of mind is the karma of body and speech. Therefore, the karma of mind is called the most accurate karma. Wise and intelligent people, having fully understood karma, gradually examine the cause of karma. Among them, the cause of karma is ignorance and contact. Due to the causes of ignorance and contact, sentient beings seek existence. The cause of seeking existence is craving. Due to the cause of craving, they perform the three types of karma: body, speech, and mind. Son of good family, wise and intelligent people, having understood the cause of karma in this way, gradually examine the maturation of results. The maturation of results is of four types: the maturation of the result that is black and also black, and...

The white, also the white, the fruition ripens; the mixed, also the mixed, the fruition ripens; the neither white nor black, also the neither white nor black, the fruition ripens. Among them, the black, also the black, the fruition ripens, is: when doing the action, it is with defilements, and the fruition that ripens is also with defilements. The white, also the white, the fruition ripens, is: when doing the action, it is also completely pure, and the fruition that ripens is also completely pure. The mixed, also the mixed, the fruition ripens, is: when doing the action, it is also mixed, and the fruition that ripens is also mixed. The neither white nor black, also the neither white nor black, the fruition ripens, is called action without outflows. The Bodhisattva Light Protector again asked the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, before you said that there is no fruition ripening for that which is without outflows, why do you say that there is fruition ripening for that which is neither white nor black? The Bhagavan replied: Son of good family, there are two aspects to this matter: one is that it is both a fruit and a ripening, and the other is that it is only a fruit and not a ripening. The black, also the black, the fruition ripens, is called both a fruit and a ripening. The fruit that arises from a black cause is called a fruit, and because it causes transformation into a cause, it is also called a ripening; the mixed and the completely pure are also the same. The fruit without outflows is called a fruit because it arises from a cause with outflows, but it is not called a ripening because it does not transform into another cause. Therefore, it is called a fruit, but it is not called a ripening. The Bodhisattva Light Protector again asked the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, if that action without outflows is not a black dharma, why is it not called white? He replied: Son of good family, it is not called white because there is no ripening, but it is called white because it is the antidote to black. In this context, I have spoken of black and white in relation to experiencing the ripening of fruits. Action without outflows does not experience ripening.
