If doubts arise in this way, and you request me to dispel them, then I will listen very carefully with a mind capable of cutting through, and I will explain it thoroughly. Son of good family, what is called a snowy mountain is like sentient beings. What is called poisonous grass is like afflictions. What is called the supreme king of medicine is like pure conduct. Son of good family, if sentient beings practice pure conduct in that way, it is like having the supreme king of medicine on their body. The Bodhisattva Light Protector then asked again: World Honored One, what is it like for sentient beings to have pure conduct? The Buddha said: Son of good family, just as in the world, fruit grows from seeds, and some of those fruits become seeds and causes, while others do not. Those that become the cause of seeds are called fruits and seeds. Those that do not change are called fruits, but not seeds. Similarly, all sentient beings have two kinds of causes. What are they? Some fruits of affliction become the cause of affliction, and some fruits of affliction do not become the cause of affliction. Those that are the fruit of affliction but do not become the cause of affliction are called pure conduct. Son of good family, sentient beings realize and know that feeling is the proximate cause of all outflows. Like this, internal and external outflows. By the cause of feeling, all outflows cannot be cut off, nor can one be liberated from the prison of the three realms. Sentient beings, due to the cause of feeling, are attached to self and what belongs to self, and therefore give rise to inverted minds, inverted perceptions, and inverted views. Therefore, sentient beings should first examine feeling. In this way, feeling becomes the proximate cause of all craving. Therefore, if a wise and intelligent person wants to cut off craving, they should first examine feeling. Son of good family, all sentient beings, through the twelve links of dependent origination, perform all good and non-good deeds at the time of feeling. Therefore, I said to Ananda: Ananda, all good and non-good deeds performed by all sentient beings
