There is a dispute. What is the reason for that? If a wise and knowledgeable person says there is, I also say there is. If a wise and knowledgeable person says there is not, I also say there is not. Bodhisattva Light Protector asked: World Honored One, with how many dharmas does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva possess, that he does not dispute with the world and is not stained by the dharmas of the world? The World Honored One replied: Son of noble family, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who possesses ten dharmas does not dispute with the world and is not stained by the dharmas of the world. What are the ten? They are: faith, discipline, relying on virtuous friends, internal reflection, possessing diligence, possessing correct mindfulness, possessing wisdom, possessing upright speech, having faith in the holy Dharma, and having compassion for sentient beings. Son of noble family, if a Bodhisattva possesses these ten dharmas, he will not dispute with worldly people, and like the Udumbara flower, he will not be stained by the dharmas of the world. Bodhisattva Light Protector asked: World Honored One, as the World Honored One said, if a wise and knowledgeable person in the world says there is, I also say there is. If a wise and knowledgeable person in the world says there is not, I also say there is not. What does this mean? How does a wise and knowledgeable person in the world say there is and there is not? The World Honored One replied: Son of noble family, if a wise and knowledgeable person in the world says that form is impermanent, suffering, empty, and without self, and says the same for consciousness, then, son of noble family, this is the wise and knowledgeable person in the world saying there is, and I also say there is. Son of noble family, if a wise and knowledgeable person in the world says that form is impermanent, without happiness, without self, and without purity, and says the same for feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, then, son of noble family, this is the wise and knowledgeable person in the world saying there is not, and I also say there is not.

The Bodhisattva Light Protector asked: "Venerable One, the wise men of the world are the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and all the Noble Ones. If the Noble Ones say that form is impermanent, is suffering, is emptiness, and is without self, then why does the Venerable One say that the Buddha's body of form is permanent, solid, and unchanging? The wise men of the world teach that all dharmas are non-existent, then why does the Venerable One say they exist? If the Buddha, the Venerable One, speaks in this way, how can one not contend with the world and not be defiled by the dharmas of the world? The Venerable One says that by abandoning such inverted perceptions, inverted minds, and inverted views, the Buddha's form is truly impermanent, and I am also permanent in this way. How can one abandon perversion and not contend with the world?" The Venerable One replied: "Son of good family, the form of an ordinary, inferior person is born from afflictions. Therefore, the wise and intelligent say that form is impermanent, is suffering, is empty, and is without self. The form of the Tathagata is completely separated from afflictions, therefore it is permanent, solid, unchanging, and unmoving." The Bodhisattva Light Protector asked: "Venerable One, how does form arise from afflictions?" The Venerable One replied: "Son of good family, there are three types of afflictions: the outflow of desire, the outflow of existence, and the outflow of ignorance. The wise and intelligent should thoroughly understand the faults of these three outflows. Why? Because knowing the faults leads to abandoning them. For example, a doctor first examines the pulse of a patient, knows the cause of the disease, and then gives medicine. Son of good family, it is like leading a blind man and abandoning him in a thorny forest and returning. It is very difficult for the blind man to come out. Even if he comes out, he will be like a body that is completely disabled. The ordinary person of the world

Also, sons of good family, the previous lives are also like that. Because they do not see or know the faults and errors of the three outflows, they follow external circumstances. What is seen is abandoned, because knowing the faults and errors, the ripening of the fruit becomes smaller and smaller. Sons of good family, there are four types of people: one is heavy when creating karma, but light when experiencing the ripening. One is light when creating karma, but heavy when experiencing the ripening. Another is both heavy when creating karma and heavy when receiving the ripening. Another is both light when creating karma and light when the fruit ripens. Sons of good family, whoever realizes the faults of afflictions, both the creation of karma and the ripening of the fruit are light. Sons of good family, wise and intelligent people will think like this: I should abandon such outflows. I should not do sinful and unwholesome things, they think. What is the reason for this? Because I have not yet been liberated from the ripening of hell beings, animals, hungry ghosts, gods, and humans. If I diligently practice, then through its power, all suffering will be completely destroyed. Having contemplated in this way, attachment, hatred, and ignorance will diminish. Seeing that attachment, hatred, and ignorance diminish, the mind will become very joyful. And again, they think: Now that I have become like this, it is also through the power of diligent practice that I have separated from unwholesome dharmas and approached wholesome dharmas. Therefore, having directly seen the correct path, generate diligence and meditate, they think. Through the power of diligently meditating there, countless unwholesome afflictions, as well as the ripening of hell beings, animals, hungry ghosts, humans, and gods, will be abandoned. Therefore, I should examine the afflictions of the outflows of existence and the causes of the outflows of existence from the sutras, he said. The Great Nirvana Sutra, chapter forty-nine. What is the reason for this? Because if wise and intelligent people examine the outflows but do not examine the cause of the outflows, then all the afflicti
