Please decorate with land. Ananda said: Poverty in the world is called practice, how can I obtain those? The monk said: Venerable, if those are offered for me, that would be great. If not offered, I will return to where the Blessed One is. Then Ananda went to where the Blessed One was and reported thus: Blessed One, that monk is asking me for decorations of the seven treasures, headdresses, banners, umbrellas, and various other items, what should I do? I said at that time, Ananda, you go back and, according to the monk's wishes, offer all the necessary items. Then Ananda went back and, for that monk, fully offered all the items. That monk, having obtained them, meditated single-mindedly, and before long, attained from the fruit of stream-entry to the fruit of Arhat. Son of good family, countless sentient beings, because of lacking the means to attain complete Nirvana, because of being busy and having their minds disturbed, have not attained it. Son of good family, also some sentient beings, because they are busy being happy to do many beneficial things, have not attained Samadhi, so they have not attained Nirvana now. Son of good family, just as you say, what cause, what condition, is there that having abandoned the aggregates of the desire realm, there is intermediate Nirvana, but not in the form realm? Son of good family, that person knows that the causes and conditions for the afflictions of the desire realm are of two kinds, namely internal and external. But in the form realm, there are no external causes and conditions. In the desire realm, there are two kinds of craving minds, namely craving for desire and craving for form. Having understood these two cravings, one will single-mindedly reproach them, and having reproached them in this way, one will completely attain Nirvana. In the desire realm, the way to reproach the gross afflictions is like this: desire, hatred, shamelessness, and lack of embarrassment, by those causes and those conditions, one will be able to attain Nirvana. Furthermore, the nature of the path of the desire realm is courageous,

Why is that? Because one can attain the four fruits. Therefore, there is intermediate Nirvana in the desire realm, but not in the form realm. Son of lineage, there are three types of intermediate Nirvana: superior, intermediate, and inferior. Among them, the superior is to completely attain Nirvana after abandoning the aggregates, without leaving the desire realm. The intermediate is to completely attain Nirvana immediately after leaving the desire realm, without reaching the form realm. The inferior is to attain Nirvana after leaving the desire realm and approaching the form realm, just like an osprey staying after obtaining food, that person is also similar to that. How does one stay? Because one takes aggregates and dwells in the form realm and the formless realm, it is called staying. Because one does not take the body of gods, humans, hell beings, animals, and hungry ghosts in the desire realm, it is called staying. Because one has completely cut off immeasurable afflictions and only a small amount remains, it is called staying. Furthermore, for what reason and condition is it called staying? Because one does not perform actions that are in accordance with bad behavior, it is called staying. Because one is without fear, one does not cause fear in others, it is called staying. Because one abandons the craving for both attachment and hatred, it is called staying. Son of lineage, reaching the other shore is an example of an Arhat, a Pratyekabuddha, a Bodhisattva, and a Buddha, just as a turtle can walk on both water and land. So, for what reason and condition do we take the turtle as an example? It is because it can hide its five limbs very well. From Arhats to Buddhas, they can also hide their five senses very well like it, so the turtle is taken as an example. What is called water and land, water is an example of the world. Land is like transcending the world, those noble ones are also like it, because they have thoroughly realized all sinful and unwholesome afflictions and reached the other shore, so the example is taken from the ability to walk on both water and land. Son of lineage, just as there are seven kinds of animals in the Ganges River, namely fish and turtles, each with different names.
