It is said that the fruits of virtue and non-virtue will ripen, and there are two ways of saying this. Therefore, know that what the noble ones say is not definitive. Since even the noble ones do not speak definitively, why should I speak definitively? Therefore, I think that the fruits of virtue and non-virtue do not exist. Again, I think that there are no noble ones in the entire world. Why? If the noble ones were to attain the correct path, then all sentient beings, when they have afflictions, would practice the correct path, which would mean that the correct path and afflictions would exist simultaneously. If they exist simultaneously, then the correct path would not be able to completely destroy the afflictions. If one were to practice the correct path without afflictions, then the correct path would be unnecessary. Therefore, the path cannot destroy afflictions for those who have afflictions, and if there are no afflictions, then the path is of no use. Therefore, I think that there are no noble ones in the entire world. Again, I think that from ignorance as a condition arises action, and from birth as a condition arises old age and death. These twelve links of dependent origination are the same and similar for all sentient beings. The eightfold noble path is also equal in nature, so it should be similar to that. If one person attains it, then all should attain it. If one person practices it, then all should cease suffering. Why? Although afflictions are the same and equal, seeing that no one attains it now, I think there is no true path. Again, I think that noble ones also have qualities that are in accordance with ordinary people. For example, eating, walking, standing, sitting, sleeping, slumbering, joy, laughter, hunger, thirst, cold, heat, sorrow, and fear. If they have these things in common with ordinary people, then they have not attained the noble path. If they have attained the noble path, then such things should be completely cut off. If they are not cut off, then one should think that there is no path. Again, I think that noble ones have bodies and enjoy the pleasures of the five desires.

Now, they also curse, feel ashamed, and engage in fights and beatings. They also harbor jealousy and pride towards others. They also experience suffering and happiness, and perform virtuous and non-virtuous actions. Because of such causes and conditions, it is understood that there are no noble ones. If there were a path, it would be reasonable to abandon those things. Since those things are not abandoned, one thinks there is no path. Furthermore, one thinks that those who possess loving-kindness are called noble ones. Why are they called noble ones? They are called noble ones because of the path. If the nature of the path is loving-kindness, then by that alone, one would have loving-kindness towards all sentient beings, being a lineage that relies on cultivation. If there is no loving-kindness, why would a noble one become loving-kindness by obtaining the path of the noble ones? Therefore, one thinks that there is no path of the noble ones in the world. Furthermore, one thinks that the four great elements are not born from conditions, but are equally present in all sentient beings. One does not think that the nature of the four great elements would go to this sentient being but not go to that sentient being. If there were a path of the noble ones, and if it were such by nature, but it has not become such now, then one thinks that there are no noble ones in the world. Furthermore, one thinks that if all noble ones had only one nirvana, then it would be understood that there are no noble ones. Why is that? Because there is no object of focus. A dharma that is eternally abiding, by its very nature, has no acceptance or rejection for that which has no object of focus. If the noble ones had many nirvanas, then it would become impermanent. Why is that? Because it can be an object of focus. If nirvana were only one, then when one person attains it, it would be reasonable for everyone to attain it. If there were many nirvanas, then it would become finite. If it is finite, how can it be established as permanent? If someone were to say that the essence of nirvana is one, but the liberations are many, like an umbrella having many ribs, that reasoning is not so. Why is that? Because each attains it individually, not all attain it, therefore it is finite.
