The two that are not born from causes and conditions are like this: the twelve links of dependent origination in the future. What is born from causes and conditions but is not the twelve links of dependent origination is like this: the five aggregates of an Arhat. What is both born from causes and conditions and is the twelve links of dependent origination is like this: the twelve links of dependent origination consisting of the five aggregates of various ignorant beings. What is neither born from causes and conditions nor is the twelve links of dependent origination is like this: space and Nirvana. After saying this, sons of good family, my attendants, after hearing this, not understanding my intention, said that the Tathagata निश्चित (Sanskrit: Niruddha, Romanized Sanskrit: Niruddha, Literal meaning: निश्चित) said that the twelve links of dependent origination are definitely not unconditioned. Sons of good family, in the Sutras I said that all sentient beings, after performing virtuous and non-virtuous actions, abandon this body, and the four great elements disintegrate separately. Those who only perform virtuous actions, the mental activities become supreme. Those who only perform non-virtuous actions, the mental activities become inferior. After saying this, sons of good family, my attendants, after hearing this, not understanding my intention, said that the Tathagata निश्चित (Sanskrit: Niruddha, Romanized Sanskrit: Niruddha, Literal meaning: निश्चित) said that the mind is definitely permanent. Sons of good family, I once said to King Endowed with Form Heart: Great King, you should understand like this, form is impermanent. Why is that? Because it is born from the cause of impermanence. Thus, if form is born from the cause of impermanence, why would a wise and intelligent person say it is permanent? If form were permanent, it would not decay and cease, and sufferings would not have the possibility of arising. Because we see this form separating, ceasing, breaking, and destroying, therefore we should know that form is impermanent. Similarly, it is the same up to consciousness. Sons of good family, my attendants, after hearing this, not understanding my intention, said that the Tathagata निश्चित (Sanskrit: Niruddha, Romanized Sanskrit: Niruddha, Literal meaning: निश्चित) said that the mind is definitely annihilated.

Son of good family, in the sutras, I have said that even if my lay followers possess unexamined wealth such as incense, flowers, gold, silver, jewels, wives, children, male servants, and female servants, they can still attain the path of truth. Having attained the path of truth, they will not abandon it. My lay followers, hearing me say this, do not understand my intention and say: The Thus-Gone One must be saying that if one indulges in the five desires, it will not become an obstacle to attaining the noble path. Again, at one time, I said: There is no possibility for a householder to attain the path of truth. Son of good family, my lay followers, hearing me say this, do not understand my intention and say: The Thus-Gone One said that if one indulges in the five desires, it will definitely become an obstacle to attaining the path of truth. Son of good family, in the sutras, I have said that abandoning afflictions but not attaining liberation is like practicing the supreme worldly dharma in the desire realm. Son of good family, my lay followers, hearing me say this, do not understand my intention and say: The Thus-Gone One said that the supreme worldly dharma exists only in the desire realm. Again, I said: The heat stage, the peak stage, the forbearance stage, and the supreme worldly dharma exist from the first dhyana to the fourth dhyana. Son of good family, my lay followers, hearing me say this, do not understand my intention and say: The Thus-Gone One said that these dharmas exist in the form realm. Again, I said: Non-Buddhists first completely cut off the afflictions of the four dhyanas, cultivate the heat stage, the peak stage, the forbearance stage, and the supreme worldly dharma, realize the four truths, and attain the fruit of non-returning. My lay followers, hearing me say this, do not understand my intention and say: The Thus-Gone One said that the supreme worldly dharma exists in the formless realm. Son of good family, in the sutras, I have said: Among the four types of giving, three are pure.
