Attachment and, attachment to sleep and, attachment to relying on householders and, delighting in wandering everywhere, due to those causes and those conditions, monks will regress. There are also two types of conditions for regression, namely internal and external. Although an Arhat has abandoned the internal conditions, he has not abandoned the external conditions, therefore, due to the external conditions, afflictions arise. Due to the arising of afflictions, one regresses and declines, thus it is said. Furthermore, a monk named Kutai regressed six times, and after regressing, he also diligently applied himself to the mind of shame and fear, and finally attained it on the seventh time. After attaining it, fearing decline, he drew his sword and killed himself. I also said that sometimes it is the time of liberation, and sometimes it is the declaration of six types of Arhats, etc. My attendants, after hearing such statements, not understanding my intention, said, "The Tathagata has definitely said that there is regression." Son of good family, it is also said in the Sutra, "Just as burnt charcoal will not turn back into wood, and a broken pot cannot be used as a pot, so too are afflictions. Once completely severed by an Arhat, they will not arise again," thus it is said. There are also three causes for the arising of afflictions in sentient beings, namely not having severed afflictions, not having severed the causes and conditions of afflictions, and unwholesome attention. An Arhat has neither causes nor conditions, and because he has severed afflictions, he also has no unwholesome attention. Son of good family, my attendants, after hearing such statements, not understanding my intention, said, "The Tathagata has definitely said that there is no regression." Son of good family, I have said in the Sutra that the Tathagata has two bodies, namely the birth body and the Dharma body. Among them, the birth body is the emanation body transformed by skillful means, and that body has no birth and, old age and, sickness and, death and, long and, short and, black and, white and, this and, that and, trainee and, non-trainee, thus

It is not right. My attendants, having heard them speak thus, because they do not understand my intention, say thus: "The Tathagata has definitely said that the body of the Buddha is of the nature of conditioned phenomena." The Dharma body is eternal, blissful, self, and completely pure, without birth, old age, sickness, and death. It is not white, not black, not long, not short, not this, not that, not a learner, not a non-learner. Whether the Buddha appears in the world or does not appear, it always remains, unchanging and unmoving. Having heard this, sons of good family, my attendants, having heard them speak thus, because they do not understand my intention, say thus: "The Tathagata has definitely said that the body of the Buddha is an unconditioned phenomenon." Sons of good family, the twelve links of dependent origination that I have spoken of in the sutras are: from ignorance arises action; from action arises consciousness; from consciousness arises name and form; from name and form arises the six sense spheres; from the six sense spheres arises contact; from contact arises feeling; from feeling arises craving; from craving arises grasping; from grasping arises becoming; from becoming arises birth; from birth arises old age, death, and sorrow. Sons of good family, my attendants, having heard them speak thus, because they do not understand my intention, say thus: "The Tathagata has definitely said that the twelve links of dependent origination are definitely conditioned phenomena." I also once said to the monks thus: "The twelve links of dependent origination, whether Buddhas appear or do not appear, their nature and characteristics always remain." Sons of good family, there are some twelve links of dependent origination that do not arise from causes. There are some that arise from causes that are not the twelve links of dependent origination. There are some that arise from causes that are the twelve links of dependent origination. There are some that neither arise from causes nor are the twelve links of dependent origination. Among these, the twelve links of dependent origination
