Who gave that name? Devadatta said: Before you were born, all the fortune-tellers said that this child would kill the king after he was born, so all the people of the country gave you the name Ajatasatru (Unborn Enemy). All the inner chamber decorations are to protect your heart, so they are called Good View. When Queen Lusheng heard these words, as soon as you were born, you were thrown down from the high roof, and one of your fingers was broken. For this reason, people also call you Valaruci. After hearing these words, although I was unhappy in my heart, I couldn't say anything to you. After that, Devadatta taught you to kill the father king with various unlucky things. If your father king dies, I will also kill the Shamen Gautama. Prince Ajatasatru asked the two ministers, why is my name Ajatasatru? After that, the ministers said the reason for the previous naming, which was the same as what Devadatta said. After Prince Ajatasatru heard it, he discussed with the ministers, arrested the father king, and surrounded him outside the city with four kinds of troops. When Queen Lusheng heard about it, she went to where the king was, but the guards stopped her and would not let her meet. After that, the queen became angry and scolded the guards. . The Great Nirvana Sutra. Volume forty-five. After that, the guards reported to the prince that the king's concubine wanted to see the father king, should he allow it or not? After hearing this, the prince became even more angry, went to where his mother was, grabbed his mother's hair, drew his sword and was about to kill her. Jiva advised: Great King, even for the crime of treason, women will not be executed, let alone your own mother? After King Ajatasatru heard these words, he did not kill his mother because of Jiva. Cut off the father king's clothes, bedding, food, and medicine for treatment, etc., and after seven days, the father king

Thus, the era of Poti came to an end. When King Ajatasatru saw his father, the king, pass away, he felt remorse. Two great ministers came and spoke various heretical and unwholesome words, saying: "Great King, if everything is without fault, why do you now feel remorse?" The physician Jivaka also said: "Great King, please understand this. This kind of action has two kinds of sinful faults: killing the father king and killing the one who has entered the stream. Such sin, other than the Bhagavan, no one can purify this action." King Ajatasatru said: "The Tathagata is pure and without defilement, but I am a sinner, how can I see him?" Son of good family, having understood this matter, I spoke to Ananda, saying: "Now, after three months, I will completely pass into nirvana." Having heard this, Ajatasatru came to where I was. I taught him the Dharma, and even the heavy faults became lighter, and he also gained faith without foundation. Son of good family, my attendants, having heard these words, not understanding my intention, said this: "The Tathagata will pass into nirvana forever." Son of good family, there are two kinds of Bodhisattvas: those who truly have meaning and those who are merely nominally designated. Among them, the Bodhisattvas who are merely nominally designated, having heard that I will completely pass into nirvana in three months, all gave rise to a mind of turning back, saying this: "If the Tathagata is impermanent and not abiding, what should we do? Why, for such a thing, should we endure great suffering of afflictions for countless lifetimes? Even the Buddha Bhagavan, who possesses immeasurable merit, could not conquer the Mara of death, how could we conquer it?" Son of good family, therefore, I said to those Bodhisattvas: "The Tathagata is always abiding, unchanging and unmoving." Son of good family, my attendants, having heard these words, not understanding my intention.

Indeed, some say that the Tathagata will not ultimately pass into nirvana. Sons of good family, some beings develop a view of annihilation, saying: After all beings are without a body, there is no experience of any good or non-good deeds. For them, I say that the ripening of the fruits of good and non-good is truly experienced. How is its existence shown? Sons of good family, in a past time, in a city called Grass Top, there was a king called Extremely Bright. For eighty-four thousand years he was a youth, for eighty-four thousand years he was a crown prince, and for eighty-four thousand years he was a king. When he was alone, he thought to himself: Beings have little merit and very short lives, always chasing after the four enemies like a shadow, yet they do not understand or perceive, and still act carelessly. Therefore, I should renounce the world, cultivate the path to enlightenment, and completely cut off the four enemies of birth, old age, sickness, and death. After thinking this, he ordered his ministers to build an immeasurable palace of seven jewels outside the city. After the immeasurable palace was built, he said to the ministers, inner attendants, princes, and relatives: You should know that I intend to renounce the world, do you agree? Then the great ministers and relatives all said: Very good! Great King, the time has come. Then, King Extremely Bright, with one attendant, stayed in the immeasurable palace for eighty-four thousand years, cultivating loving-kindness. As a result, he gradually became a universal monarch for eighty-four thousand years. After that, he became Indra, the lord of the gods, for thirty lifetimes. For countless lifetimes he was a petty king. Sons of good family, do not think that the Extremely Bright of that time was someone else, that is me now. Sons of good family, my attendants, hearing me say this, did not understand my meaning, and said: The Tathagata certainly says that there is a self and what belongs to the self.
