If one of the four great elements gives rise to hatred, the body will be destroyed. Son of good family, for example, if a person is afflicted by illness, they seek medicine and doctors from the depths of their heart and perform the rituals to cure the illness. If they are not cured despite their efforts, they will be devoured by demons and die. The bodies of all sentient beings are also like this, and one should not be careless in constantly gathering their minds. If one is careless, it will be destroyed and cease. Son of good family, for example, an unbaked clay pot cannot withstand wind, rain, striking, throwing, and pressing. The bodies of all sentient beings are also like this, unable to endure hunger, thirst, cold, heat, wind, rain, striking, binding, and scolding. Son of good family, for example, if a boil swells, one is always careful and does not allow it to be touched. If it is touched, it will cause great pain. The bodies of all sentient beings are also like this. Son of good family, just as a pregnant mule loses its own body, so too the bodies of all sentient beings, if they have wind and phlegm diseases in their abdomen, they will experience suffering. Son of good family, just as a tree with fruit immediately withers, so too are the bodies of all sentient beings. Son of good family, just as a tree without heartwood, so too are the bodies of all sentient beings. Son of good family, just as snakes and lizards always generate harmful thoughts towards each other, so too are the four great elements. Son of good family, just as a king of geese dislikes cemeteries, so too does a Bodhisattva, not clinging to or liking the tomb of the body. Son of good family, just as people of bad lineage who perform the deeds of bad lineage for seven generations are blamed by everyone, so too is the seed of the body, which is born from semen and blood, ultimately impure. Because it is so impure, it is jointly condemned by the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Son of good family, this body is not like the Himalayas, where sandalwood, utpala flowers, pundarika flowers, champaka flowers, jasmine flowers, and parishaka flowers do not grow, and blood and pus constantly flow from the nine orifices.

Impurity flows out, born in a place of foul odor, causing disgust, constantly dwelling with worms. Son of noble family, for example, if a corpse is placed in a pure and clean garden enclosure in the world, it will not become pure, and many will abandon it, not giving rise to feelings of attachment. The realm of form is also like this, although pure and good, because of the existence of the body, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas completely abandon it. Son of noble family, if one cannot understand in this way, it should not be called cultivating the body. Not cultivating discipline, son of noble family, what is discipline? This is the ladder to all virtuous dharmas, the root of all virtuous dharmas, just like the great earth, the place where all trees and forests grow. It is the leader of all virtuous roots, just like a merchant leader, the leader of all merchants. Discipline is the victory banner of all virtuous dharmas, just like the victory banner of Indra raised high. Discipline can permanently cut off all non-virtuous actions and the actions of the three lower realms. It can cure the disease of non-virtue, just like a medicinal tree. Discipline is like provisions for the perilous path of samsara. Discipline is the weapon to destroy the enemy of afflictions. Discipline is the mantra that renders the poisonous snake of afflictions harmless. If one cannot understand discipline as a bridge to liberation from non-virtuous actions, it should not be called cultivating discipline. Not cultivating the mind, the mind is distracted, wandering, changing, difficult to grasp, difficult to tame, wandering everywhere, like an untamed yak. It is swift from moment to moment, like the light of lightning. The mind is fickle and unstable, like a monkey. The mind is like illusion, a mirage, the root of all non-virtue. The five desires are difficult to satisfy, like fire meeting firewood. The mind is like the ocean, able to contain all rivers. The mind is like a mountain, the place where many grasses and trees grow, if one cannot understand in this way, samsara also
