are not permissible, and understanding that different dharmas arise from causes, different dharmas are seen from causes, different dharmas become fruits from causes, and understanding that different dharmas do not become fruits from causes, this is called having wisdom. Son of good family, if a Bodhisattva possesses ten dharmas, he will clearly see the signless Nirvana. Lion's Roar Bodhisattva asked: World Honored One, how is it that the World Honored One previously said to Cunda, 'You will see the Buddha-nature, and you will also attain great Nirvana, and you will manifest and awaken to the Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment'? What is the meaning of this? World Honored One, it is said in the sutras that if one gives alms to animals, one will receive a hundredfold reward; if one gives alms to those with wrong views, one will receive a thousandfold reward; if one gives alms to those who uphold the precepts, one will receive a hundred thousandfold reward; if one gives alms to non-Buddhists who have cut off countless afflictions, one will receive countless rewards; if one gives alms to the four aspirants and those who have attained the four fruits, as well as solitary Buddhas, one will receive countless rewards; if one gives alms to irreversible Bodhisattvas and Bodhisattva Mahasattvas who are bound by one lifetime, as well as the Tathagata World Honored One, the merit and reward obtained are immeasurable, boundless, unspeakable, and inconceivable. World Honored One, if Cunda experiences such merit and reward, then such reward is not needed. When will he attain the Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment? World Honored One, it is also said in the sutras that if someone performs good or bad deeds with a pure mind, the fruit will definitely ripen, either in this life, or in the next life, or experienced in this very life. Then Cunda also performs good deeds with a pure mind, so this karma will definitely be experienced as a fruit. If the fruit will definitely be experienced, then how can one attain the Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment? And how

Thus, one will be able to see the Buddha-nature. The Blessed One also said in the Sutra Pitaka that if one makes offerings to these three objects: the sick, parents, and the Buddha Blessed One, one will experience inexhaustible fruits. Also in the Sutra Pitaka, the Blessed One said to Ananda that if all sentient beings do not have the karma of the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm, then they will attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Also, the Blessed One said in the Dharma Verse Sutra, "The realm of space and the great ocean, as well as going to mountains and rocks, wherever one goes, one cannot be liberated from the deeds one has done." Also, in the prayer of the irreversible one, it is said, "Blessed One, I clearly remember that in the past I gave an offering of a handful of food, and therefore I did not fall into the three lower realms for eighty thousand kalpas." Blessed One, even by giving an offering of a handful of food, one can obtain such a mature result, how much more so will the venerable Cunda, who makes offerings to the Buddha with a devout heart, be endowed with the perfection of generosity? Blessed One, if the mature result of virtuous deeds cannot be offset, then how can the slander of the profound and vast scriptures, the commission of the five heinous crimes, the breaking of the four root vows, and the sins of the heretics be offset? If they cannot be offset, then one will be able to see the Buddha-nature and attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. The Blessed One said: "Excellent! Excellent! Son of the lineage, two kinds of individuals can obtain immeasurable and boundless merits, inconceivable and inexpressible, the heat of samsara will also be extinguished, and they will be able to defeat the demons and heretics, destroy the banners of the demons, and turn the unsurpassed Dharma wheel of the Tathagata. What are the two? They are those who are skilled in asking questions and those who are skilled in answering questions. Son of the lineage, among the ten powers of the Buddha, the power of karma is the most supreme. Son of the lineage, it is said so in order to tame those sentient beings who have deep faith in the cause and effect of karma, but especially kill sentient beings.
