Ajita, why do you say that the Tathagata should dwell in the Sal tree forest? If he dwells in this forest, he will become a body with boundaries. If he has boundaries, he will become impermanent. If the Tathagata is permanent, why do you say he dwells? Non-dwelling is empty space. If the nature of the Tathagata is the same as empty space, why do you say he dwells? Furthermore, non-dwelling is the Vajra-like Samadhi. The Vajra-like Samadhi destroys all abodes. If the Tathagata himself is the Vajra-like Samadhi, why do you say he dwells? Furthermore, non-dwelling is illusion. If the Tathagata is the same as illusion, why do you say he dwells? Furthermore, non-dwelling is without beginning or end. If the nature of the Tathagata is also without beginning or end, why do you say he dwells? Furthermore, non-dwelling is the boundless realm of Dharma. If the boundless realm of Dharma is the Tathagata, why do you say he dwells? Furthermore, non-dwelling is the Heroic Progress Samadhi. The Heroic Progress Samadhi knows all dharmas without attachment. Because of non-attachment, it is called the Heroic Progress Samadhi. If the Tathagata also possesses the Heroic Progress Samadhi, why do you say he dwells? Furthermore, non-dwelling is the power of what is possible and what is impossible. If the Tathagata possesses the power of what is possible and what is impossible, why do you say he dwells? Furthermore, non-dwelling is the Perfection of Generosity. If the Perfection of Generosity had a dwelling place, one could not progress from the Perfection of Discipline to the Perfection of Wisdom. Therefore, the Perfection of Generosity is non-dwelling. If the Tathagata does not dwell even in the Perfection of Wisdom, why do you say, 'Please let the Tathagata always dwell in the Sal tree forest?' Furthermore, non-dwelling is the practice of the four mindfulnesses. If the Tathagata dwells in the four mindfulnesses, he cannot attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, therefore it is called the non-dwelling abode. Furthermore,

Non-abiding is called the infinite realm of sentient beings. Although the Tathagata reaches the infinite realm of all sentient beings, he does not abide. Furthermore, non-abiding is called having no support and no place, which is called having nothing at all. Having nothing at all is called non-arising. Non-arising is called non-death. Non-death is called no characteristic. No characteristic is called no bondage. No bondage is called no attachment. No attachment is called no outflow. No outflow is virtue. Virtue is unconditioned. Unconditioned is great Nirvana, constant Nirvana. Constant is self. Self is completely pure. Completely pure is called bliss, constant, bliss, self, and completely pure are the Tathagata. Son of good family, for example, the sky does not abide in the east, south, west, north, four intermediate directions, above, and below. The Tathagata is also like that, not abiding in the east, south, west, north, four intermediate directions, above, and below. Son of good family, if someone obtains the fruit of virtue through unwholesome body, speech, and mind, there is no such place. There is also no place for obtaining the fruit of non-virtue through wholesome body, speech, and mind. A bad person sees the Buddha's nature, but the Bodhisattva of the tenth bhumi does not see it, and there is no such place. Those with wrong views, those who have committed the five heinous crimes, those who slander the profound and vast sutras, and those who destroy the four roots, etc., attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, there is no such place. The Bodhisattva of the sixth bhumi falls into the three lower realms due to the causes and conditions of afflictions, there is no such place. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva attains unsurpassed perfect enlightenment with the body of a woman, there is no such place. Those with wrong views are permanent, and the Three Jewels are impermanent, there is no such place. The Tathagata dwells in the city of Kushinagar, there is also no such place. Son of good family, the Tathagata is now in this city of Kushinagar, entering the deep cave of great samadhi, sentient beings
