Because of inversion, all sentient beings revolve greatly in samsara. Feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness are also the same. The six teachers said that the Buddha, the Bhagavan, has completely cut off the bonds of form, up to the bonds of consciousness, and therefore is called permanent, blissful, self, and completely pure. Furthermore, form is dependent arising, and whatever is dependent arising is called selfless. Whatever is selfless is called emptiness and suffering. The body of the Tathagata does not arise from dependent arising; because it is not dependent arising, it is said to have self. Whatever has self is called permanent, blissful, self, and completely pure. The six teachers also asked, Gautama, from form not being self to consciousness not being self. What is called self is all-pervasive, like empty space. The Bhagavan replied, if there were something that is all-pervasive, then I should have seen the self before. If it had been seen before, then what is seen did not exist before, but appears later. If it did not exist before but exists later, then it is impermanent. If it is impermanent, why is it called all-pervasive? If it is all-pervasive, then all beings in the five paths should have complete bodies. If they have complete bodies, then they should each experience different ripening results. If they each experience different ripening results, why do you say that they will become gods and humans? Is what you call all-pervasive one or many? If the self is one, then the names of father, son, relatives, and enemies would not exist. If the self is many, then the five faculties of all sentient beings should be the same, and karma and its results should also be the same. If that were the case, why are there differences between complete and incomplete faculties, virtuous and non-virtuous actions, ignorance and wisdom? The six teachers asked, Gautama, the self of sentient beings is finite and infinite. Dharma and non-dharma have directional parts. Sentient beings who practice Dharma obtain good bodies, and those who practice non-dharma obtain bad bodies, therefore

The result of karma with defilements is not without differences. The Blessed One said to the six teachers: If dharma and non-dharma are like that, then I am not all-pervasive. If I am all-pervasive, then I should be of the kind that goes everywhere. If it is like that, then people who do good also have sins, and people who do evil also have the reason to have good. If it is not like that, why is it called all-pervasive? The six teachers reported: Gautama, for example, even if hundreds of thousands of lamps are lit in a room, they shine separately, and one does not hinder the other. The self of sentient beings is also like that. Those who do good and those who do evil are not mixed together. The Blessed One said: The reason why you say that I am like a lamp is not like that. Why is that? The light of a lamp is produced from conditions. When a lamp is born, light is also born, but the self of sentient beings is not like that. Light comes from the lamp and the place is different. The self of sentient beings comes from the body, but the place is not different. The light of the lamp exists together with darkness. Why is that? For example, if you light a lamp in a dark room, it will not become bright, but if you light many lamps, it will become bright. If the previous lamp can illuminate the darkness, then there is no need for the later lamp. If the later lamp is needed, then the previous light is obviously existing together with darkness. The six teachers reported: Gautama, if there is no self, who will do good and evil? The Blessed One said: If it is done by the so-called self, can it be said to be permanent? If it is permanent, why does it sometimes do good and sometimes do evil? If there is a time for doing good and evil, why do you say that I am infinite? If I am the one who does it, why do I practice non-virtuous dharma? In that way, I am the doer. If I am the knower, why do sentient beings have doubts about the absence of self? Therefore, there is definitely no self in the teachings of the heretics. The so-called self is the Tathagata.
