Laziness and negligence, always being despised by others, forgetting whatever is heard immediately, delighting in dwelling in border regions, being unable to subdue the senses, not knowing contentment with food, not believing in truth, and having incorrect views, these are the thirteen (lacking virtues). Son of good family, a negligent person, even if close to the Buddha and the Buddha's attendants, is said to be very distant. The Licchavis reported: We are not negligent. Why is that? If we were not non-negligent, then the Tathagata, the King of Dharma, would come to our country. At that time, among the many retinues, a Brahmin's son named Invincible said these words to the Licchavis: Good, good! Just as you said, King Embodied Heart obtained the great meaning of benefit and happiness, therefore the Buddha, the Bhagavan, came to that country. Just as a noble lotus is born from a great lake, although born in water, it is not stained by water. Young Licchavis, the Buddha is also like that, although appearing in that country, he will not be stained by the laws of the world. The Buddhas, the Bhagavans, neither appear nor enter, but for the sake of sentient beings, they manifest in the world, not being obscured by the laws of the world. People deceive themselves, clinging and attached to the five desires, not knowing to take refuge in the Tathagata, therefore it is called negligence. The Buddha becoming the center and refuge is not called negligence. Why is that? The Buddha, the Bhagavan, is like the sun and moon, not appearing in the world for the sake of one or two (people). Then, those Licchavis, hearing those words, generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, saying: Good, good! Young Invincible has spoken the most invincible noble Dharma, well spoken! Then, those Licchavis each took off one piece of clothing and offered it to Invincible. Invincible accepted it and said: Offered to me, Bhagavan, I have obtained these clothes from the Licchavis.

. The Tathagata, out of compassion for sentient beings, said: Please accept this offering I have made. At that time, I accepted it out of compassion for the young Mipam. Then, the Licchavis joined their palms together and prayed: Tathagata, you once came to this place, would you please accept a small portion of our offerings? I did not speak at that time, and the Licchavis prayed as such, and I agreed. After that, upon hearing that the six teachers had become like that, I went to Kapilavastu (6th century BC - 5th century AD) with the teacher and retinue. After that, I went to Kapilavastu again and stayed by the river called Klungpa La. After that, in Kapilavastu, there was a householder named Rinchen Drak who was very attached and clinging to the five desires, and did not understand impermanence. When I went there, I naturally obtained the Dharma of contemplating skeletons. Houses, dwellings, wives, and servants all appeared as skeletons, and a great fear arose. Like swords, poisonous snakes, robbers, or flames, he came out of his house and came before me. On the way, he said: Ascetic Gautama, I am now very afraid as if being chased by enemies, I pray that you protect me. Then, the Blessed One said: Son of good family, the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha are peaceful and without fear. That householder prayed: If there is no fear in the Three Jewels, may I also obtain fearlessness. I then allowed him to be ordained. At that time, that householder had fifty friends, and when they heard that Rinchen Drak had become very disgusted with desire and had been ordained, they also severed their ties and were ordained. After hearing this, the six teachers gradually went to the great city of Champaka. After that, everyone in Champaka offered and entertained the six teachers and their retinue, and they had not even heard the names of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. Many people were doing very unwholesome deeds, and at that time I went to the city of Champaka for the sake of sentient beings. At that time, in that city, there was a householder who was on the verge of extinction.

Yes, in order to have a son, they make offerings to the six teachers. Later, his wife became pregnant. When the householder found out, he went to the six teachers and said with joy: "Is this child in my wife's womb a boy or a girl?" After asking this, they said with certainty that a girl would be born. When the householder heard this, he was tormented by sorrow and became unhappy. A friend of his came to the householder and asked him why he was so tormented by sorrow. The householder said: "My wife is pregnant, and I don't know if it's a boy or a girl, so I asked the six teachers. The six teachers looked and said, 'According to our divination, a girl will definitely be born.' When I heard that, I was old and had countless wealth, but if it's not a boy, there will be no one to entrust it to, so I am unhappy." The friend said: "You really don't understand! Haven't you heard before? Where did the two brothers, Water God and Light Protector, go, to the Buddha or to which of the six teachers? If the six teachers are all-knowing, how could Light Protector abandon the six teachers and become close to the Buddha? Also, Shariputra and Maudgalyayana's son, and King Bimbisara and other kings, and the king's consorts, and all the householders of the land, the helpless food-givers, and so on, aren't they all close to the Buddha? The hungry ghosts of the wilderness monasteries, and King Ajatashatru, and the mad bull guarding the property, and Angulimala, whose evil mind greatly increased and was about to kill but was subdued, and so on, weren't they all tamed by the Tathagata? Householder, the Buddha Bhagavan is called Buddha because he knows and sees all things without obstruction. What he says is without duality, so he is called Tathagata. He is called Arhat because he has destroyed the defilements. What the Bhagavan says is without duality. If the six teachers are not like that, how can they be trusted? Tathagata.
