Is there a mountain of seven jewels? He said: Indeed there is, because I do not lie, so I have both obtained the jewels and drunk the water. The danger is that the road is difficult, and here thieves and robbers are rampant. There are many sorrows and thorns, and there is no water and grass, so even if hundreds and thousands go, very few arrive. After hearing what he said, one of them felt regret and said this: The road is long, and there are many obstacles, so although countless people go, only one or two arrive. How can I get there? If my life is only enough for me to enjoy myself like this. If I enter the road and do not succeed in arriving, my body and life will be lost. If there is no body and life, where is longevity and happiness? Another person said this: Others have arrived, if I am still here, I should also go. If I reach the other shore, I can obtain jewels as I wish, and I can also drink good spring water. If I cannot escape, I will repay with my life. After that, of the two people, one regretted and returned. The other prepared and left. The one who left arrived at that mountain, obtained many jewels, drank water as he wished, and returned with many jewels, offering them to his parents, and also giving enough to all his relatives and friends. At that time, the one who regretted returning, seeing such things, felt great pain in his heart. He thought: He went and was able to return, why should I stay here? So he prepared and left. Here, the mountain of seven jewels is like great Nirvana. The sweet water is like Buddha-nature. The two people are like the two Bodhisattvas who initially generated the mind of enlightenment. The difficult road is like samsara. The person encountered on the road is like the Buddha Bhagavan. The rampant robbers are like the four maras. Sorrows and thorns are like afflictions. The absence of water and grass is like not practicing the path of enlightenment. One who returns is like a Bodhisattva who regresses. The one who prepares and goes is like a Bodhisattva who does not regress, this should be understood as a metaphor. Son of good family, Buddha of sentient beings!

Its nature is constant and unchanging. Just as one cannot say that the path is impermanent because one regrets the perilousness of the path and turns back. The nature of the Buddha is also the same. Son of the lineage, there is no turning back on the path to enlightenment. Son of the lineage, how does one regret? Seeing that a friend has obtained many precious jewels, obtained power and authority, supported his parents, given sufficiently to relatives and friends, and enjoyed much happiness, longing arises in his heart, and so he sets out on the path, not sparing his body and life, enduring many hardships and obstacles, just as one goes to the mountain of seven jewels, so too is the bodhisattva who does not turn back. Son of the lineage, all sentient beings will not be devoured by demons, and will attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, and for that purpose, I have said in all the sutras that even those who commit the five heinous crimes, and abandon the four root downfalls, and even those with wrong views, all sentient beings have the nature of the Buddha. Lion's Roar Bodhisattva asked: World Honored One, how is it that a bodhisattva turns back and does not turn back? The Buddha replied: Son of the lineage, a bodhisattva who accumulates the causes and conditions for the thirty-two marks of the Tathagata is also called non-returning. He is also called a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. He is also called immovable and unshakable. He is also called having compassion for all sentient beings. He is also called surpassing all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. He is also called non-returning. Son of the lineage, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not waver in the precepts of morality, has a firm mind of generosity, and abides in truthful speech like Mount Sumeru, then by the cause and condition of that karma, he will obtain the mark of having flat soles like a tortoise shell. If a Bodhisattva Mahasattva offers and gives to his parents, Khenpo, Acharya, Lama, and even to beings in the animal realm when he is young, with the wealth he has obtained according to the Dharma, then by the cause and condition of that karma, he will obtain the mark of having a wheel with a thousand spokes under his feet. A Bodhisattva Mahasattva who does not kill or take what is not given.
