What should it be called? Because of turning back, it is not considered to possess Buddha-nature. World Honored One, Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas, with one mind, approach the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment, which is through great loving-kindness and great compassion. Seeing the faults of the afflictions of birth, aging, and death, and in the Great Nirvana, observing that there are no faults in the afflictions of birth, aging, and death, and with faith in the Three Jewels and the ripening of karmic results, upholding the precepts and other dharmas, this can be called Buddha-nature. If there is Buddha-nature beyond this dharma, then why would this dharma need to be the cause and condition? World Honored One, there is no dharma in which milk can turn into yogurt and butter without needing conditions. Relying on conditions is like this: the work done by people, water, pottery, a churn, and a rope. The Buddha-nature of sentient beings is also the same; without cause and condition, there is no way to attain unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment. If it is definitely there (Buddha-nature), then why do yogis, seeing the suffering of the three lower realms, such as birth, aging, sickness, and death, generate a mind of turning back? Furthermore, it is impossible to attain unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment without practicing the six perfections, just as milk cannot turn into yogurt without conditions. Without the cause of the six perfections, one cannot attain unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Therefore, sentient beings do not have Buddha-nature. World Honored One, as you said before, the Sangha Jewel is permanent. If it is said to be permanent, then it is not impermanent. If it is not impermanent, then how can one attain unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment? If the Sangha is permanent, then why do you say that all sentient beings have Buddha-nature? World Honored One, if sentient beings do not have the mind of Bodhi from the beginning, nor the mind of unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and only have it later, then sentient beings'

The Buddha-nature is also the same as this, changing from not existing at the beginning to existing later. Therefore, all sentient beings do not have the Buddha-nature. The Blessed One said: Good, good! Son of good family, you have understood the meaning of Buddha-nature for a long time, and now it is good to ask like this for the sake of sentient beings. All sentient beings have perfect Buddha-nature. You say this, if sentient beings have Buddha-nature, then what is the lineage of the first mind generation? Son of good family, mind is not the nature of Buddha. Why? Because mind is impermanent, and the nature of Buddha is permanent. You say this, why is there a regressive mind? In fact, there is no regression in the mind. If the mind has regression, then no one will be able to obtain the supreme perfect enlightenment, because it is slow to obtain, so it is said to be non-regressive. The mind of enlightenment is actually not the nature of Buddha. Why? Because those with wrong views cut off the roots of virtue, and sentient beings will fall into hell. If the mind of enlightenment is the nature of Buddha, then those with wrong views will not be called those with wrong views. The mind of enlightenment cannot be said to be impermanent, so it must be known that the mind of enlightenment is actually not the nature of Buddha. Son of good family, you say this, if the Buddha-nature exists, then it depends on conditions like milk turning into butter, which is not the case. Why? Just as five kinds of causes turn into butter, the Buddha-nature is also like this. For example, there is gold in stone, there is also silver, there is also copper, and there is also iron. They all exist similarly in the four great elements, but the names are different, and the essence is also different, requiring many causes and conditions. This also arises from the merit of sentient beings and the actions of people, so from the beginning there is the nature of gold.

It should be understood in this way. The Buddha-nature of sentient beings cannot be called Buddha, because the causes and conditions of accumulating many merits are combined. If one can see the Buddha-nature, then one can initially attain Buddhahood. You say this, if sentient beings have Buddha-nature, why can't they attain Buddhahood? It is not like that either. Why? Because the causes and conditions have not gathered. Son of good family, therefore I have spoken of the two causes of true cause and condition. Among them, the true cause is Buddha-nature. The cause of condition is the arising of Bodhicitta. Through these two causes and conditions, one attains unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment, just like gold is produced from stone. Son of good family, you say this, the Sangha is permanent, therefore all sentient beings do not have Buddha-nature. Son of good family, the meaning of Sangha is harmony. There are two kinds of harmony, namely, harmony in conventional truth and harmony in ultimate truth. Among them, harmony in conventional truth is the Sangha of Shravakas. Harmony in ultimate truth is the Sangha of Bodhisattvas. The Sangha of conventional truth is impermanent, while Buddha-nature is permanent. Just as Buddha-nature is permanent, so is the Sangha of ultimate truth. In addition, the Sangha is also in harmony with the Dharma. Harmony with the Dharma refers to the twelve categories of scriptures. The twelve categories of scriptures are permanent, therefore I said that the Dharma and the Sangha are permanent. Son of good family, the meaning of Sangha is harmony, and what is in harmony is the twelve links of dependent origination. The twelve links of dependent origination have Buddha-nature, therefore the twelve links of dependent origination are permanent, and Buddha-nature is the same. Therefore, I said that the Sangha has Buddha-nature. In addition, the meaning of Sangha is the harmony of all Buddhas, therefore I said that the Sangha has Buddha-nature. Son of good family, you say this, if sentient beings
