If it becomes visible, then that which is seen also has no original nature. The fruit is also similar to that, initially there is no tree, what fault is there in it now existing? Simhanada Bodhisattva asked. As the Blessed One said, the true cause and the manifest cause are spoken of as two types. Among them, earth and water, and moisture, are the manifest cause of the nyagrodha fruit, therefore it becomes large from small. The Blessed One said: Son of good family, if it already exists from the beginning, what need is there for a manifest cause? If there is no nature from the beginning, what can manifestation manifest? If the nyagrodha does not have the nature of being large from the beginning, but the manifest cause can give rise to being large, then look. If both are absent and the same, why does the acacia tree not grow? Son of good family, if it is not seen because it is small, then the large one should be able to be seen, just as if a single dust particle is not seen, many dust particles gathered together can be seen, so the large fruit should also be able to be seen. Why is that? Because it has sprouts, trunks, flowers, and fruits. And within each fruit there are countless seeds, and each seed has countless trees, therefore it is called large. Having become large in this way, it becomes the kind that can be seen. Son of good family, if the seed of the nyagrodha has the nature of the seed of the nyagrodha, so that a tree can grow, then the eye should see that seed as solid. In this way, the nature of solidity should also be originally present. If solidity is present from the beginning, then the tree should not be able to grow. If all dharmas are originally arising and ceasing, then why does it arise first and cease later, and not at the same time? Therefore, one should recognize that it has no self-nature. Bodhisattva Simhanada asked: Blessed One, if the fruit of the nyagrodha does not have the nature of a tree from the beginning, but a tree can grow, if both do not exist, then why does oil not come from that fruit? Son of good family, oil can also come from that fruit, although there is no original nature, it can exist through cause and condition. Simhanada asked: Why sesame oil

It should not be said thus. Because it is not because of sesame. Son of good family, for example, fire arises from the cause of fire, and water arises from the cause of water. Although both are born from causes, they cannot depend on each other. The fruit of the banyan tree and sesame oil are also the same. Although both are born from causes, they do not produce each other. The nature of the banyan fruit is beneficial for curing phlegm diseases, and the nature of sesame oil is beneficial for curing wind diseases. Son of good family, for example, sugar and black sugar arise from the cause of the sugarcane tree. Although the cause is the same, the color and function are different. Sugar is beneficial for curing bile diseases, and black sugar is beneficial for curing phlegm diseases. Bodhisattva Lion's Roar asked: World Honored One, just as there is no nature of cheese in milk, no nature of oil in sesame, no nature of tree in the fruit of the banyan tree, and no nature of pottery in clay, if all sentient beings do not have the Tathagatagarbha, then as the World Honored One said before, all sentient beings have the Tathagatagarbha, so it is unreasonable to attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. What is the reason for this? Because gods and humans do not have self-nature, and because they do not have self-nature, humans will become gods and gods will become humans. This is transformed by the cause of karma, not by the transformation of self-nature. Bodhisattva Mahasattva also attains unsurpassed perfect enlightenment through the cause of karma. If sentient beings have the Tathagatagarbha, then for what reason and what cause do those with wrong views cut off the roots of virtue and fall into hell? If the mind of Bodhi is the Tathagatagarbha, then it is reasonable that those with wrong views cannot cut it off. If it can be cut off, then it should not be said that the Tathagatagarbha is permanent. If it is not permanent, then it should not be said that it is the Tathagatagarbha. If sentient beings have the Tathagatagarbha, then why is it necessary to generate the mind of Bodhi in the beginning, and to regress and not regress?
