There are four ways of being intoxicated and killing: intoxication by desire, intoxication by medicine, intoxication by mantra, and intoxication caused by the karma of previous lives. Great King, among my attendants, there are also those who possess these four intoxications. Although they have done many unwholesome deeds, they do not proclaim that it is the breaking of vows. No matter what they do, they will not fall into the three lower realms. If they can recall it later, it should not be called a violation of vows. King, if killing one's father for the sake of coveting the throne and land is done by a mind intoxicated by desire, why would it become a sin? Great King, for example, if a person kills his mother while intoxicated by alcohol. If he becomes sober and develops a feeling of extreme remorse, it should be known that this action will not ripen. The king also acted because he was intoxicated by desire, not consciously. If it was not done consciously, why would he incur an inappropriate sin? Great King, for example, a magician conjures up illusory men, women, cotton oxen, horses, simodos (a musical instrument), clothes, and various other things at a crossroads. Foolish and ignorant ordinary people believe that they are real and true. But wise and intelligent people know that they are not real and true. Similarly, killing is the same. Foolish and ignorant ordinary people believe that it is real. But the Buddha, the Blessed One, knows that it is not real. Great King, for example, a foolish person believes that the echo in a valley is a real sound. But a wise and intelligent person knows that it is not a real sound. Killing is also the same. Foolish and ignorant ordinary people believe that it is real. But the Buddha, the Blessed One, knows that it is not real. Great King, for example, if an enemy approaches with illusion, a foolish person believes that it is a real approach. But a wise and intelligent person knows that it is an illusion. Killing is also the same. Foolish ordinary people believe that it is real. But the Buddha, the Blessed One, knows that it is not real. Great King, just as one's face appears in a mirror, a foolish person believes that it is a real face
