I am impermanent. Since consciousness arises from such an impermanent cause, how can it be permanent? Thus, because of impermanence, it is suffering. Because of suffering, it is empty. Because of emptiness, it is without self. If it is impermanent, suffering, empty, and without self, then what will kill what? If impermanence is killed, then the permanent Nirvana is attained. If suffering is killed, then happiness is attained. If emptiness is killed, then truth is attained. If no-self is killed, then the true self is attained. Great King, whoever kills impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and no-self is like me. I also kill impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and no-self. If I do not go to the hells of sentient beings, how will you go? Then, King Ajatashatru, as the Blessed One said, examined from form to consciousness. Having understood in this way, he said to the Blessed One, "Blessed One, I now realize that from form to consciousness is impermanent. If I had known this before, I would not have committed evil deeds. Blessed One, I have heard it said that the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, are always the parents of sentient beings. Although I heard this, I did not truly understand it. Now I truly understand it. Blessed One, I have also heard it said that Mount Meru, the King of Mountains, is made of four kinds of jewels: gold, silver, lapis lazuli, and crystal. If many birds gather in any direction, they will become the same color as that direction. Although I heard this, I did not truly understand it. Now I have gone to the presence of the Tathagata's Mount Meru and have become the same color. The same color means knowing that all dharmas are impermanent, suffering, empty, and without self. Blessed One, in this world, I only see castor beans giving rise to castor trees. I have not seen castor beans giving rise to sandalwood trees. Now I see castor beans giving rise to sandalwood trees. Here, the castor bean is my body, and the sandalwood tree is my mind, the root of faith."

Having spoken thus. What is called "without root" means that I should not have shown respect to the Tathagata before. Not believing in the Dharma and the Sangha, this is called "without root." O Bhagavan, if I had not met the Buddha Bhagavan, then for immeasurable and countless kalpas, sentient beings would have experienced immeasurable suffering in the great hells. Today, I have seen the Buddha, and through the merit of seeing the Buddha, may all the afflictions and unwholesome minds of sentient beings be pacified! The Bhagavan said: Great King, well done, well done! I know that you have not been devoured by demons, and the unwholesome minds of sentient beings have been pacified. He reported: O Bhagavan, if the unwholesome minds of sentient beings are pacified by my being examined in this way, then, even if I am always in the hells for the sake of sentient beings, and endure great suffering for immeasurable kalpas, I will not regard it as suffering. Then, at that time, countless people along the Ganges River in the central region generated the mind of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Thus, because those immeasurable beings generated a supreme mind, the heavy sins of King Ajatashatru were also lightened, and the king, the queen, the attendants, and all others simultaneously generated the mind of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Then, King Ajatashatru said to Jivaka: Jivaka, I have obtained a divine body without dying, and having abandoned short life, I have become long-lived. Having abandoned the impermanent body, I have obtained a permanent body. This is to cause sentient beings to generate the mind of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Now it is a divine body, long-lived, and permanent. I am a close attendant of all the Buddhas. Having spoken thus, he offered various kinds of precious banners, flags, umbrellas, incense, flowers, garlands, and excellent musical instruments to the Bhagavan, and then praised him with these verses: That true word is extremely excellent, skilled in understanding words and meanings, the profound and secret essence, also clearly revealed to the masses. The vast and boundless words also
