Those children are not treated unequally; however, more concern is given to the sick child. Great King, the Tathagata is also the same; he is not unequal to all sentient beings, but he especially cares for those with sins. For the lazy, the Buddha considers them objects of compassion. For the diligent, he remains indifferent. Who are the diligent? For example, those Bodhisattvas who abide on the sixth ground. Great King, the Buddha, the Bhagavan, does not discriminate between the race of sentient beings, the old, the young, the mature, the poor, the rich, the time, the sun, the moon, the stars, the artisans, the low-born, male servants, or female servants. He only considers whether sentient beings have virtuous minds, and if they do, he cares for them with a loving heart. Great King, this light appearance should be understood as the light emitted by the Tathagata after entering into the samadhi that is like the moon. The king asked: What is this samadhi that is like the moon? The Sustainer replied: For example, the moonlight causes all the Utpala flowers to bloom and become bright. Similarly, the samadhi that is like the moon also opens and causes the virtuous minds of all sentient beings to bloom; therefore, it is called the samadhi that is like the moon. Great King, for example, the moonlight makes all the guests happy. Similarly, the samadhi that is like the moon is also the same; it causes those who walk the path of Nirvana to generate a joyful mind; therefore, it is called the samadhi that is like the moon. Great King, for example, the moonlight from the first to the fifteenth day of the lunar month gradually increases in shape and light and becomes complete. Similarly, the samadhi that is like the moon also causes the roots of virtue of the first generation of the mind to gradually grow and increase, until it is completely perfected up to the great Nirvana; therefore, it is called the samadhi that is like the moon. Great King, for example, the moonlight from the sixteenth to the thirtieth day gradually decreases and diminishes in shape, color, light, and appearance.

Similarly, in the place illuminated by the light of the moon-like samadhi, all afflictions gradually diminish and become smaller, hence it is called the moon-like samadhi. Great King, for example, in times of intense heat, all beings always think of the moon's light. When touched by the moon's light, the heat disappears. Similarly, the moon-like samadhi also eliminates all the suffering of beings caused by afflictions of desire. Great King, for example, the full moon is like the king of many stars, like the taste of nectar, all beings rejoice and adore it. Similarly, the moon-like samadhi is also similar to that, it is the king of all virtues, like the taste of nectar, all beings rejoice and adore it, therefore it is called the moon-like samadhi. The king said: I have heard it said that the Tathagata does not dwell, walk, or speak with evil people, just as a corpse does not remain overnight in the ocean, a fish eagle does not stay in a dry place, Indra, the lord of the gods, does not dwell with yakshas, and the bird Kushi does not sleep on a dry tree. If the Tathagata is also like that, how can I see him? If I were to see him, would my body not sink into the ground? I think that seeing the Tathagata is as dangerous as approaching a mad bull elephant, a lion, a tiger, a jackal, or a fire, but never like associating with an evil person. With what kind of mind should I go before the Tathagata? The physician Jivaka said: Great King, just as one who is tormented by thirst quickly goes to a source of pure water. Just as the hungry desire food, the frightened desire refuge, the sick desire medicine, the hot desire shade, and the cold desire fire, so too, Great King, your desire for the Buddha should be the same. Great King, the Tathagata even teaches the sacred Dharma to those who hold wrong views, what need is there to say that the Tathagata regards with compassion and protects you, Great King, who does not hold wrong views?

The king said: "I have heard Jivaka say that a person with wrong views is one who does not believe, does not listen, does not keep the meaning in mind, and does not understand the meaning. How can the Tathagata preach the Dharma?" Jivaka said: "Great King, for example, if someone is seriously ill, they might dream of living in a house with a single pillar, or eating butter and oil, and their body becomes fat, or sleeping in ashes and eating ashes, or climbing a withered and rotten tree, or often sleeping or living with monkeys, or sinking in water, or being submerged in mud, or falling from a roof, a house, a high mountain, a tree branch, a sheep, a horse, a cow, or a sheep, or wearing blue, yellow, red, or black clothes, singing, dancing, and playing, or seeing crows, fireflies, foxes, etc., or their teeth and hair falling out, or sleeping naked on a dung heap with a dog as a pillow, or associating and living with people who died earlier, or walking hand in hand, or climbing and walking on a place full of poisonous snakes, or dreaming of embracing a woman with disheveled hair and sleeping together, or making clothes with palm leaves, or riding a cart pulled by a donkey and going south. After dreaming like this, they become very unhappy and feel pain in their heart. Because they are unhappy and in pain, their illness becomes more and more serious. Because the illness becomes more and more serious, the relatives send someone to find a doctor. If the person sent to invite the doctor is short, or has incomplete limbs and lacks senses, or has dust on their head, or wears ragged clothes, and pulls a broken cart, and says to the doctor, 'Quickly climb on that cart,' then the wise doctor, seeing such inauspicious omens, thinks, 'This patient is very difficult to cure.' And thinks, 'Although there are such inauspicious omens, can it still be cured or not?' and observes the sun. If the illness occurs on the fourth, sixth, eighth, twelfth, or fourteenth day of the lunar month, they think, 'It is very difficult to cure.' And thinks like this:
