Hearing the sound of "dying and reviving," they immediately come to life. The beings in the Avīci Hell are so reckless. Great King, the Avīci Hell has a gate on each of its four sides. Outside each of these gates, there is a great fire, blazing fiercely in the south, north, east, and west. Eighty thousand yojanas in circumference are surrounded by iron walls, and the top is also covered with an iron net, and the ground is made of iron. The fire from above also falls below, and the fire from below also rises above, blazing fiercely. Great King, just as a fish placed in a pot will be burned, so too are the people who dwell there. Great King, if one commits one act of Avīci, one experiences the result of one act of Avīci. If one commits two acts of Avīci, one experiences double the result. If one commits five acts of Avīci, one will experience five times the result. Great King, I know that the king will not be eaten by demons or be liberated because of this bad karma. Great King, quickly go to where the Tathāgata is dwelling. Apart from the Blessed One Buddha, there is no other who can be a protector. I urge you in this way because of my compassion for you. At that time, the Great King, hearing these words, was greatly frightened and terrified, trembling all over, and the five parts of his body shook like trees in water. He looked up and said, "I do not see a form, only a voice. Who is this?" Great King, I am your father, King Bimbisāra. Listen to my life-saving words! These are not the teachings of the six teachers of wrong views. As soon as the king heard these words, he fainted and fell to the ground. Sores also grew on his body, becoming more foul-smelling and filthy than before. Even when cool medicine was applied, the sores became even hotter, and there was no way to live. The Holy Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra, Volume Twenty-Seven. At that time, the Blessed One, the Teacher, the Great Compassionate One, for the sake of King Ajātaśatru, entered into a samādhi like the moon. Having entered into samādhi, he emitted great rays of light. The great light was very...

That masseur touched the king's body, and the pustules on his body healed, and the suffering from the heat was completely calmed. The king felt that the pustules had healed and that his limbs were cool, and he said to the physician: "In the past, wise men used to say that when the end of the kalpa is near, three moons will appear at once, and at that time all beings' illnesses and sufferings will be calmed. That time has not yet come, so where did this light come from that touched my body, and the suffering of the pustules was eliminated, and my body became comfortable?" The physician said: "This is not the appearance of three moons at once when the end of the kalpa is near. It is not the light of fire, the sun, the stars, medicine, jewels, or gods." The king said again: "If it is not the light of three moons and jewels, then whose light is this?" He said: "King, this should be known as the light sent by the god of gods. This light has no root, no ultimate end, is not hot, is not cold, is not constant, is not cessation, is not form, is not formless, is not characterized, is not uncharacterized, is not blue, is not yellow, is not red, is not white. For the sake of saving sentient beings, there is the visible, the describable, the rooted, the bounded, the hot, the cold, and there is also blue, yellow, red, and white. Great king, although it is so, that light is truly indescribable, from the invisible to the blue, yellow, red, and white, there is nothing." The king said to the physician: "For what reason and under what conditions did the god of gods send this light?" He said: "Great king, today's omen seems to have been sent for the sake of the king. The king had previously said that there were no wise doctors in the world who could heal the diseases of body and mind, so this light was sent to first heal the king's body, and then also to heal his mind." The king again said to the physician: "Is the Blessed One, the Tathagata, watching over me?" The physician said: "For example, if a man has seven children, and one of the seven is afflicted with illness, the parents will
