Son of lineage, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abiding in the first bhumi is called great love. What is the reason for that? Son of lineage, the chief of sinners is called a heretic. A Bodhisattva abiding in the first bhumi, practicing great love, has no differentiated mind even towards heretics, does not see faults, and therefore does not generate hatred. For that reason, it is called great love. Son of lineage, completely eliminating what is not beneficial and not comfortable for all sentient beings is called great love. Giving immeasurable benefit and comfort to many sentient beings is called great compassion. Generating a mind of joy towards all sentient beings is called great joy. Having no weariness is called great equanimity. Not seeing self, dharma, characteristics, and one's own body, and viewing all dharmas as equality, is called great equanimity. Abandoning one's own happiness and giving it to others is called great equanimity. Son of lineage, with just the four immeasurables, the six perfections, such as love, arise and become complete, not by other practices. Son of lineage, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva first attains the four mundane immeasurable minds, and then generates the mind of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, and gradually also attains the supramundane (four immeasurable minds). Son of lineage, from the cause of the mundane immeasurables, one can attain the supramundane immeasurables, therefore it is called great immeasurable. The Bodhisattva Light Protector asked the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, completely eliminating what is not beneficial and not comfortable, and contemplating benefit and comfort, is just contemplation, but in reality, it does not truly benefit or comfort. Bhagavan, for example, when a monk contemplates impurity, even the clothes worn on the body are seen as skin, but in reality, it is not skin. Food is also perceived as worms, but in reality, it is not worms. Drinking bean juice is also perceived as dirty liquid, but in reality, it is not dirty liquid. Yogurt is also perceived as pus or brain matter, but in reality, it is not brain matter.

So! Regarding flour, people think it is bone powder, but in reality, it is not bone powder. The mind of the four immeasurables is also similar to this; in reality, it is not benefiting and bringing happiness to sentient beings. Merely saying that one gives happiness to sentient beings, but in reality, it does not bring happiness. Isn't such a mind false? World Honored One, if it is not false, but truly real, why don't the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, through their blessings, cause all sentient beings to experience happiness? If it is not truly happiness, as the World Honored One has said, I clearly remember that in the past, merely diligently practicing the mind of loving-kindness, I was not born in this world until after the world had been destroyed seven times by kalpas. When the world was forming, I was born as a Brahma god. When the world was being destroyed, I was born as a Akanistha heaven god. When born as a Brahma god, I possessed power and strength, was not overcome by others, and was the most supreme among a thousand Brahmas, the most excellent. Having been born as the Great Brahma King, all sentient beings perceived me as the master. Thirty-six times, I was born as Indra, the lord of the Thirty-Three Heavens. For countless hundreds of thousands of births, I was born as a Universal Monarch. It was said that merely cultivating the mind of loving-kindness would lead to obtaining the perfect enjoyments of gods and humans. If this is not true, how can what was said be consistent? The World Honored One said: Good! Good! Son of good family, you are very brave and possess fearlessness. Then, the World Honored One spoke to Kashyapa in verses: Whoever does not generate a mind of hatred towards even one sentient being, and desires happiness for them, is called truly loving. Whoever generates a mind of compassion towards all sentient beings is called a noble lineage and will obtain immeasurable merit. If sages with five superknowledges were to fill the great earth, and a powerful king were to bestow all happiness, horses and cows...
