The great teacher, the naked son of Gnyen, is omniscient, all-seeing, compassionate to all sentient beings, skilled in understanding the sharp and dull faculties of all sentient beings, extremely knowledgeable in various and appropriate methods, undefiled by the eight worldly dharmas, with extremely pure conduct, and endowed with supreme peace, now teaches the Dharma to his attendants, saying: There is no giving, no merit, no father, no mother, no present, no past, no Arhat, no meditation, and no path. All sentient beings, after hundreds of thousands of eons, will naturally be liberated from the cycle of birth and death. Those with sin and those without sin are all the same. For example, the four great rivers, namely the Sindhu, the Ganges, the Pakshu, and the Sita, all flow into the great ocean without any difference. All sentient beings are the same, and at the time of liberation, there is no difference. The great teacher who teaches in this way is now residing in Rajagriha (ancient capital of Magadha, near Patna, Bihar). You should quickly go to that great king, and if you meet him, bad deeds will arise. The king said: If my bad deeds can truly arise, then I will take refuge in him. At that time, the great physician Jivaka came to the great king and said to the king: Great king, do you sleep well? Then the king spoke these verses to him: Those who can completely cut off all defilements and are not attached to the three realms will sleep peacefully. Those who can explain the profound meaning of Nirvana, that true Brahmin, will sleep very peacefully. Those who have no faults of body, have abandoned the four faults of speech, and have no doubts in their minds will sleep peacefully. Those whose body and mind are not tormented, who dwell in supreme peace and happiness, will attain supreme happiness and will sleep very peacefully. Those whose minds are not attached to anything, who have completely abandoned hatred, who are always harmonious and do not quarrel, will sleep peacefully. Those who do not commit sins,

Acting with caution and a mind of modesty, if one has unwavering faith in the ripening of karma, then one will sleep peacefully. Respecting father and mother, not taking the life of any sentient being, not having a mind to steal others' wealth, these people will sleep peacefully. Those who have thoroughly subdued their senses, rely on virtuous friends, and completely conquer the four maras, these people will sleep peacefully. Not seeing auspiciousness and inauspiciousness, happiness and suffering, for the sake of many different beings, revolving in the cycle of samsara, if one is not weary of this, then one will sleep very peacefully. Who sleeps peacefully? It is the Buddha, the Bhagavan, because he has thoroughly realized the samadhi of emptiness, and his body and mind are unshaken. Who sleeps peacefully? It is those who are full of loving-kindness and compassion, diligently striving for selflessness, and regarding all beings as their own children. Those sentient beings blinded by ignorance, do not see the fruits of afflictions, and always engage in sinful deeds, therefore they will not sleep peacefully. If I, with my own body, or with the body and speech of others, commit the ten non-virtuous actions, then I will not sleep peacefully. Some people, for the sake of pursuing happiness, say that killing one's father is not a sin, and associate with evil friends, then they will not sleep peacefully. If one does not control one's diet, and excessively drinks cold water, then the suffering of illness will arise, and one will not sleep peacefully. If one offends the king, or sleeps with another's wife, or goes to a secluded monastery, then one will not sleep peacefully. Not obtaining the sprout of upholding morality, not obtaining the means of a prince usurping the throne, and thieves not obtaining wealth, these people will never sleep peacefully. I, the doctor and healer, am afflicted by illness, because I offended and killed the king who ruled the country according to dharma, even though all the skilled doctors used medicine and mantras and other methods to treat me, my illness could not be cured. Why is that? Because my father was the king who ruled the country according to dharma, and he had no fault, but I offended and killed him, just like putting a dried fish on land, where would there be happiness? Or like a wild animal caught in a trap, where would there be a happy mind? How could a person long...
