are desire, hatred, and wrong views. Son of good family, that which is neither body nor speech is called complete abandonment. Son of good family, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva does not regard even a single dharma as being completely abandoned by body, action, or lord. Because there is also complete abandonment, it is also called inconceivable. Speech should also be understood in the same way. Son of good family, abandoning from the body with the body, and abandoning from speech with speech, abandoning completely with wisdom is not with the body, nor with speech. Son of good family, in truth, these wisdoms will not be abandoned by the Bodhisattva. Why is that? Son of good family, not even a single dharma is destroyed or made. Because the nature of conditioned dharmas is that they arise due to difference and cease due to difference. Therefore, this wisdom will not be completely abandoned. Son of good family, wisdom cannot be destroyed, cannot be burned by fire, cannot be soaked by water, cannot be carried away by wind, cannot be held by earth, cannot be generated by birth, cannot be aged by aging, cannot be dwelt by dwelling, cannot be destroyed by destruction, cannot be desired by desire, cannot be hated by hatred, cannot be obscured by delusion, because the nature of conditioned things arises due to birth and ceases due to difference. A Bodhisattva-Mahasattva does not think, "My wisdom has destroyed all afflictions." He says, "I have destroyed all afflictions." Even if he says that, he is not lying, therefore it is called inconceivable. The Noble Great Nirvana Sutra, Chapter Twenty-Five. Then, Light Protector again said to the Blessed One, "Blessed One, I now understand the inconceivable Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, and the Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, and the Great Nirvana Sutra, and the Dharani that holds it, and Bodhi, and the inconceivable Nirvana. Blessed One, how long will the unsurpassed Buddha Dharma remain? When will it disappear? Son of good family, complete Nirvana

The Mahaparinirvana Sutra has five practices, namely: the noble practice, the Brahma practice, the divine practice, the sick practice, and the infant practice. If any of my close disciples uphold, read, recite, write, and explain its meaning, and treat, respect, honor, praise, and offer various offerings to sentient beings, then know that the Buddha's Dharma will not decline. Son of good family, if this Mahaparinirvana Sutra is widely spread, then at that time, many of my close disciples will break the precepts, commit many unwholesome deeds, and will not believe in this Sutra. Because they do not believe, they will not uphold, read, recite, write, or explain its meaning, nor will they cause many people to make offerings with respect. If they see someone upholding it, they will slander, saying: 'You are entering the teachings of the six heretical teachers, not a close disciple of the Buddha.' At that time, know that the Buddha's Dharma will not last long and will soon decline. Furthermore, the Bodhisattva Light-Holder said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, I have heard from the Blessed One that the Dharma of the Buddha Light-Holder will abide in the world for seven days and then decline." Blessed One, does the Thus-Gone One Light-Holder have this Sutra or not? If he has it, why did you say it would decline? If he does not have it, why did you say that the Great Nirvana Sutra is the secret essence of all the Thus-Gone Ones? The Blessed One said: "Son of good family, I have said before that only Manjushri knows this matter. Now I will repeat it again, listen and contemplate carefully. Son of good family, the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, have two kinds of Dharma, namely, conventional truth and ultimate truth. The Dharma of conventional truth will cease, and the Dharma of ultimate truth will not perish or cease. These also have two aspects, namely, impermanence, selflessness, suffering, and impurity."

Permanent, Bliss, Self, Purity. Among these, impermanence, non-self, absence of bliss, and absence of purity are subject to destruction and cessation. Permanence, bliss, self, and purity are without destruction and cessation. Again, there are two types: those held by the Two Vehicles and those held by Bodhisattvas. Among these, those held by the Two Vehicles are subject to destruction and cessation. Those held by Bodhisattvas are without destruction and cessation. Again, there are two types: internal and external. Among these, external phenomena are subject to destruction and cessation. Internal phenomena are without destruction and cessation. Again, there are two types: conditioned and unconditioned. Among these, conditioned phenomena are subject to destruction and cessation. Unconditioned phenomena are without destruction and cessation. Again, there are two types: with characteristics and without characteristics. Among these, phenomena with characteristics are subject to destruction and cessation. Phenomena without characteristics are without destruction and cessation. Again, there are two types: defiled phenomena and undefiled phenomena. Among these, defiled phenomena are subject to destruction and cessation. Undefiled phenomena are without destruction and cessation. Again, there are two types: gods and humans. Among these, humans are subject to destruction and cessation. Gods are without destruction and cessation. Again, there are two types: the eleven Sutras and the extensively vast Sutra. Among these, the eleven Sutras are subject to destruction and cessation. The extensively vast Sutra is without destruction and cessation. Son of good family, if any of my close attendants holds, reads, recites, writes, interprets, and explains the extensively vast Sutra, and offers respect, reverence, and offerings, then it should be known that the Buddha's Dharma will not decline. Son of good family, your previous question about whether the Tathagata Kashyapa possessed this Sutra, son of good family, the Great Nirvana Sutra is the essence spoken by all the Tathagatas after contemplation. Why is that? Because although the Tathagatas possess the eleven Sutras, those Sutras do not contain the Buddha-nature, as well as the permanence, bliss, self, and purity of the Tathagata.
