Even if defeated, one should not give up diligence. Why is that? Because the mind of diligence becomes the cause of unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Son of good family, thus, a Bodhisattva, even before seeing unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, does not spare his body and life, what need is there to mention seeing it? Therefore, a Bodhisattva is inconceivable. Furthermore, the so-called inconceivable means that a Bodhisattva, a great being, sees the immeasurable faults of samsara, which is not realized by Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. Thus, even seeing the immeasurable faults of samsara, he does not become weary of completely experiencing suffering for the sake of sentient beings. Therefore, it is called inconceivable. A Bodhisattva, a great being, for the sake of sentient beings, even experiencing much suffering in the hells of sentient beings, it is like the bliss of the third dhyana. Therefore, it is inconceivable. Son of good family, for example, if a householder's house catches fire, he will come out of that house. If the householder's sons remain inside the house and do not escape from the fire, the householder, knowing that he will be burned by the fire, will still enter the house to rescue his sons. A Bodhisattva, a great being, is also like that. Although he knows that there are many faults and shortcomings in samsara, he does not become weary of abiding in samsara for the sake of sentient beings. Therefore, it is inconceivable. Son of good family, countless sentient beings, even after generating the mind of enlightenment, seeing many faults of samsara, turn back from that mind. Some become Hearers, and some become Solitary Buddhas. If a Bodhisattva hears this sutra, he will not turn back from the mind of enlightenment. It is impossible to become a Hearer or a Solitary Buddha. Thus, even if that Bodhisattva has not attained the first immovable ground, his mind will become very firm. Because he does not turn back, it is called inconceivable. Son of good family, if someone says, 'I can swim across this great ocean,' is that statement inconceivable? Blessed One, it is.

The words spoken are both conceivable and inconceivable. What is the reason for that? If a person swims to the other shore, that is inconceivable. If an Asura swims to the other shore, that is conceivable. Son of good family, here it refers only to ordinary people, not Asuras. Blessed One, among people there are both inconceivable and conceivable ones. Blessed One, there are also two types of people: noble ones and foolish commoners. For foolish commoners, that is inconceivable. For noble ones, it is conceivable. Son of good family, here I am referring to foolish commoners, not noble ones. Blessed One, if it is for foolish commoners, that is inconceivable. Son of good family, foolish commoners cannot truly swim to the other shore of the great ocean. Bodhisattva Mahasattvas truly reach the other shore of the ocean of samsara, therefore they are called inconceivable. Son of good family, if someone lifts Mount Sumeru with the stem of a lotus root and waves it in the sky, is that inconceivable? He replied: No, it is not. The Blessed One said: Son of good family, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva can measure and cover all of samsara in an instant, which is called inconceivable. Son of good family, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, for immeasurable and countless kalpas, realizes that samsara is impermanent, selfless, without happiness, and impure, yet extensively teaches and shows beings permanence, happiness, self, and purity. Even though they teach and show in this way, they do not develop wrong views, therefore it is called inconceivable. Son of good family, for example, if someone jumps into water but is not carried away by the water, and jumps into a great fire but is not burned by the fire, that is called inconceivable. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva is also like that; although dwelling in samsara, they are not harmed by samsara, therefore it is called inconceivable. Son of good family, for example, there are three types of people

Superior, middling, and inferior. Among them, an inferior person thinks while in the womb: 'I dwell in a cesspool, or an unclean place, or in a corpse, or on a thorn heap, or in darkness.' When emerging from the womb, they also think: 'Now I have emerged from a cesspool, or an unclean place, or a place of great darkness.' Among them, a middling person thinks while in the womb: 'I dwell in a grove of trees, or in clear water, or in a beautiful house.' They think the same when they emerge. Among them, a superior person thinks while in the womb: 'I dwell in a beautiful mansion, or a garden, or riding a horse, or a cow, or an elephant, climbing a high mountain.' They think the same when they emerge. A Bodhisattva Mahasattva knows when they first enter the womb that they are entering, knows when they are in the womb that they are in the womb, and knows when they emerge that they are emerging. Thoughts of desire and hatred never arise, but because they do not abide on the earth, they are called inconceivable. Son of good family, unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment is incomparable. Son of good family, the mind is also incomparable, indescribable, and not easily expressed. A Bodhisattva Mahasattva attains unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment like a teacher without a teacher or disciples. Having heard these teachings in this way, they constantly teach and explain them to sentient beings with a mind free from stinginess, therefore they are also called inconceivable. Son of good family, there are Bodhisattva Mahasattvas who completely abandon with their body but not with their speech, and there are those who completely abandon with their speech but not with their body, and there are those who abandon completely with neither body nor speech. Completely abandoning with the body means killing, taking what is not given, and engaging in impure conduct, but not with speech. Completely abandoning with speech means speaking falsehoods, divisive speech, harsh speech, and idle chatter; this is completely abandoning with speech, but not with the body. Completely abandoning with neither body nor speech means
