Showing the great Nirvana of passing away, therefore, the Buddha Bhagavan is called the unsurpassed teacher. Deva means daytime. Because the gods have long days and short nights, they are called devas. Furthermore, deva means without sorrow, because they are always happy, they are called devas. Furthermore, deva means the lamp of light. Because they destroy darkness and become great light, they are called devas. Furthermore, having destroyed the black deeds of sin and obtained the white deeds of virtue, because they are born as gods, they are called devas. Deva is auspicious, because it is auspicious, it is called deva. Furthermore, deva means the sun, because the sun has light, the sun is called deva. Because of such meanings, it is called deva. Man means thinking a lot in the mind. Furthermore, man is gentle and harmonious in body and speech. Furthermore, man is with pride. Man is destroying pride. Son of lineage, although the Buddha Bhagavan is the unsurpassed teacher of all sentient beings, it is said in the scriptures that he is the teacher of gods and humans. What is the reason for this? Because among all sentient beings, only gods and humans can generate the mind of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, and can perform the ten virtuous deeds, therefore they can obtain the fruit of stream-enterer, the fruit of once-returner, the fruit of non-returner, the fruit of Arhat, the fruit of solitary Buddha, and attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, therefore the Buddha Bhagavan is called the teacher of gods and humans. Then, how is one called a Buddha? Buddha means awareness, one is aware oneself and also makes others aware. Son of lineage, for example, if a person is aware that a thief is entering the house, the thief will not succeed. Bodhisattva Mahasattva also perceives all the immeasurable afflictions, and by perceiving in this way, all afflictions cannot succeed. Therefore, it is called Buddha. By perceiving in this way, one will not be born, will not age, will not get sick, will not die, therefore it is called Buddha. Then, how is one called Bhagavan? Destroying means

Vanquisher! "Endowed" refers to afflictions. Because of vanquishing all afflictions, it is called "Vanquisher Endowed." Furthermore, because of being endowed with all virtuous dharmas, because of being extremely skilled in the meaning of all dharmas, because of being endowed with great qualities that others cannot overcome, because of great fame spreading in the ten directions, because of giving various kinds of generosity, because of abandoning the power of women like spitting out phlegm for immeasurable and countless eons. Son of the lineage, if any man or woman cultivates the remembrance of the Buddha in this way, whether walking, standing, sitting, or lying down, whether in light or darkness, day and night they will always see the Buddha and will not be separated from him. Son of the lineage, why does the Thus-Gone One, the Foe-Destroyer, the Perfectly Complete Buddha, up to the Vanquisher Endowed, possess such immeasurable qualities and great fame? Son of the lineage, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva in the past, for immeasurable and countless eons, served and honored parents, preceptors, teachers, lamas, and superiors. For immeasurable and countless eons, for the sake of sentient beings, they gave generosity, kept moral discipline, cultivated patience, exerted diligence, meditated in concentration, diligently applied wisdom, and diligently applied great love, great compassion, great joy, and great equanimity. Therefore, they obtained the thirty-two marks, the eighty minor marks, and a body like a vajra. Furthermore, the Bodhisattva in the past, for immeasurable and countless eons, diligently applied the powers of faith, diligence, mindfulness, concentration, and wisdom, and served and honored teachers and lamas, also for the sake of desiring the Dharma, not for the sake of food and gain. If the Bodhisattva holds the twelve categories of scriptures, if they read or recite them, it is always for the sake of liberating all sentient beings and making them supremely happy, not for their own sake. Why is that? The Bodhisattva is always towards the world.
