Even if it is not intentionally manifested, it will naturally manifest. For example, if a farmer sows seeds in fertile land, even if he does not intentionally cultivate them, the seedlings will grow naturally. For example, if you light a fire, even if you don't intentionally eliminate the darkness, the darkness will naturally disappear. Son of the lineage, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva who keeps the precepts purely will naturally generate a mind without regret, which is similar to this. By keeping the precepts purely, one will obtain a mind of great joy. Son of the lineage, for example, a person with a good appearance will feel great joy when he sees his own appearance. Keeping the precepts purely is also similar to this. Son of the lineage, a person with bad precepts will not generate joy because his precepts are not pure. Just as an ugly person does not generate joy when he sees his own appearance, so is a person with bad precepts. Son of the lineage, for example, two women carrying containers, one carrying a container of yogurt and the other carrying a container of butter, went to the market together. On the way, they quarreled and both containers were broken. One was happy and the other was not. Those who have precepts and those who break precepts are also like this. Keeping the precepts purely will lead to extreme joy in the mind. With extreme joy in the mind, one will think like this: The Buddha Bhagavan said that whoever keeps the precepts purely will attain Nirvana. I will also strive to keep the precepts purely and attain Nirvana. For this reason, for this cause, the mind will be extremely joyful. Bodhisattva Light Protector also asked: Bhagavan, what is the difference between joy and happiness? The Bhagavan replied: Son of the lineage, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not commit any sins that would cause faults, so it is called joy. Guarding the precepts with a mind of extreme joy is called happiness. Son of the lineage, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva thoroughly understands Samsara, so it is called joy. Attaining complete Nirvana is called happiness. Finally

Ma is called joy. Chog is called bliss. Abandoning the Dharma mixed with the world is called joy. Obtaining the unmixed Dharma is called bliss. Because the discipline is completely pure, the body is capable, and there is no fault of harsh speech. At that time, all seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching, and knowing of that Bodhisattva are without fault. Because there is no fault, the mind becomes extremely happy. Because the mind becomes extremely happy, one obtains the peaceful Samadhi. Because one obtains the peaceful Samadhi, knowledge and view become correct. Because knowledge and view become correct, one becomes completely disgusted with Samsara. Because one becomes completely disgusted with Samsara, one obtains liberation. Because one obtains liberation, one sees the Buddha-nature. Because one sees the Buddha-nature, one obtains the Great Nirvana. These are the completely pure disciplines of a Bodhisattva, not the disciplines of the world. Why is that? Son of good family! If a Bodhisattva Mahasattva guards the complete purity of discipline, then these five Dharmas will become companions. What are the five? Possessing faith. Possessing shame. Possessing embarrassment. Possessing a virtuous friend. Respecting discipline. By abandoning the five obscurations, the view becomes completely pure. By abandoning the five views, there will be no mind of doubt. Furthermore, one will abandon the five doubts. What are the five? Doubting the Buddha. Doubting the Dharma. Doubting the Sangha. Doubting the discipline. Doubting negligence. At that time, that Bodhisattva will also obtain the five faculties. What are the five? The faculty of faith. The faculty of diligence. The faculty of mindfulness. The faculty of Samadhi. The faculty of wisdom. By obtaining the five faculties, one will also obtain the five kinds of Nirvana. What are the five? From the liberation of form to the liberation of consciousness. This is the discipline of a Bodhisattva.

It is called completely pure, not of the world. Sons of good families, those are what worldly people do not know, do not see, and do not understand; they are what Bodhisattvas know, see, and understand. Sons of good families, if among my close attendants, there is someone who holds, grasps, reads, recites, writes, or proclaims the Mahayana Complete Nirvana Sutra, if their discipline is flawed, they will be despised and slandered by others. They will say this: 'If the essence of the Buddha's intention, the Great Nirvana Sutra, is powerful, why would someone who upholds the precepts become corrupted?' If someone who holds or grasps the Nirvana Sutra has flawed discipline, then it should be understood that the Sutra is powerless. If it is powerless, then reading or reciting it will not be beneficial. Thus, by despising and slandering the Nirvana Sutra, countless and boundless sentient beings will fall into hell. If someone who holds or grasps this Sutra breaks the precepts, then they are a sinful friend to sentient beings, not my close attendant, but a member of Mara's retinue. That person should not even be allowed to hear this Sutra, let alone hold, grasp, or practice it. It is impossible to hold, grasp, or practice it with flawed discipline. Sons of good families, if among my close attendants, someone wants to hold, grasp, read, recite, write, or proclaim the Complete Nirvana Sutra, they should practice with an upright body and mind, not with arrogance, frivolity, or competitiveness. Among these, what arises from the body is called arrogance, and what arises from the mind is called frivolity. A mind with seeking is called frivolity, and actions done by the body are called arrogance. If my close attendants have a seeking mind and engage in corresponding actions, then they should not hold or grasp this Mahayana Complete Nirvana Sutra. If someone in such a state holds or grasps this Sutra, they will be despised and slandered by others, and they will say this: 'If this is the essence of the Buddha's intention...'
