It is not body, nor is it non-body. It is not long, nor is it short. It is not high, nor is it low. It is not birth, nor is it cessation. It is not red, nor is it white. It is not blue, nor is it yellow. It is not existent, nor is it non-existent. Since it is so, why does the Thus-Gone One say it can be attained? Enlightenment and Nirvana are also the same. The Blessed One said: It is so, it is so. Son of good family, there are two kinds of paths: permanent and impermanent. There are also two kinds of enlightenment: permanent and impermanent. Nirvana is also the same, the path of externalist heretics is called impermanent. The inner path is called permanent. The enlightenment of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas is called impermanent. The enlightenment of Bodhisattvas and Buddhas is called permanent. The liberation of externalists is called impermanent. The liberation of the inner path is called permanent. Son of good family, the path, enlightenment, and Nirvana are all called permanent. All sentient beings are always covered by countless afflictions, and because they do not have the eye of wisdom, they cannot see. Ordinary people want to see, so they diligently practice morality, concentration, and wisdom. In this way, by diligently practicing, one will see the path, enlightenment, and Nirvana, and this is called the Bodhisattva attaining the path, enlightenment, and Nirvana. The characteristic of the path is not truly arising or ceasing, therefore it is ungraspable. Son of good family, the so-called path has neither form nor shape, neither visible nor measurable, nor knowable, but in reality it is necessary. Son of good family, for example, the mind of sentient beings is neither body, nor long, nor short, nor thick, nor thin, nor bound, nor liberated, nor a visible phenomenon, but it is not non-existent. Therefore, I once said to the householder Anathapindika, the mind is like the ruler of a city. Householder, if the mind is not guarded, then the body and speech will not be guarded either.

Guard the mind! If you guard the mind, then body and speech will also be guarded. If body and speech are not well guarded, then sentient beings will fall into the three lower realms. If body and speech are guarded, then sentient beings will attain the sorrowless state of gods and humans, Nirvana. Attaining in this way is called true, not attaining is not called true. Son of lineage, the path, enlightenment, and Nirvana are also the same as this; they are neither existent nor permanent. If it were something nonexistent, then how would all afflictions be severed? Because it exists in this way, all Bodhisattvas also clearly and directly see and know it. Son of lineage, there are two kinds of seeing: seeing by signs and seeing clearly and directly. So, how is it seeing by signs? For example, if you see smoke from afar, you say you see fire, although you do not truly see fire, but it is not false either. If you see a water bird, you say you see water, although you do not see water, but it is not false. For example, if you see flowers and leaves, you say you see the roots. Although you do not see the roots, that is not false either. For example, if someone sees horns behind a fence, you say you see a cow, although you do not see the cow itself, but it is not false. For example, if you see a pregnant woman, you say she has slept with a man, although you do not see the sleeping itself, but it is not false. For example, if you see the leaves of a growing tree, you say you see water, although you do not see the water itself, but it is not false. For example, if you see clouds, you say you see rain, although you do not see the rain itself, but it is not false. For example, if you see the actions of the body and the actions of speech, you say you see the actions of the mind, although you do not see the actions of the mind, but it is not lying, this is called seeing by signs. So, how is it seeing clearly and directly? For example, like the eye seeing form. Son of lineage, for example, a person whose eye faculty is undamaged and completely pure, like placing a mango fruit in the palm of their hand. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva clearly and directly sees the path, enlightenment, and Nirvana in the same way. Although seeing in this way, but initially
