It is called "Pa." Noble son, furthermore, non-attainment is equal to space. In the world, there is nothing, which is called space. Because the Bodhisattva attains a samadhi like space, he does not see anything. Therefore, the Bodhisattva is called non-attainment. Attainment is the wheel of revolving in samsara. All ignorant ordinary people revolve in samsara, so there is something to see. The Bodhisattva completely cuts off all samsara, so the Bodhisattva is called non-attainment. Noble son, furthermore, the non-attainment of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is called permanence, bliss, self, and purity. Because the Bodhisattva Mahasattva sees the Buddha-nature, he attains the names of permanence, bliss, self, and purity. Therefore, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is called non-attainment. Those who attain are impermanent, unhappy, selfless, and impure. Because the Bodhisattva Mahasattva thus cuts off impermanence, unhappiness, selflessness, and impurity, the Bodhisattva is called non-attainment. Noble son, furthermore, non-attainment is the emptiness of ultimate truth. When the Bodhisattva Mahasattva contemplates the emptiness of ultimate truth, he does not see anything, so the Bodhisattva is called non-attainment. Attainment is the view

Because the Bodhi of the two is cut off, the Bodhisattva is called without attainment. Son of good family, what you asked is also without attainment, and what I said is also without attainment. As much as there is to be attained, that is the retinue of Mara, not my attendant. Bodhisattva Light Protector again said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, when you showed me the Bodhisattva's non-attainment, immeasurable beings abandoned the mind with characteristics. Therefore, when I asked about the meaning of non-attainment, those immeasurable beings abandoned becoming the retinue of Mara and became the Buddha's attendants. Bodhisattva Light Protector again said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, when you were dwelling under the Sala tree, you taught Venerable Cunda in verse, saying: Formerly there was, but now there is not. Formerly there was not, but now there is. All phenomena of the three times of existence, such a state does not exist. What is the meaning of what the Blessed One said? The Blessed One said: Son of good family, I also said that in order to tame many beings. Also, I said that for the sake of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Also, I said that for the sake of Manjushri, not just for the sake of Cunda alone did I say that in verse. At that time, Manjushri intended to ask me that, but I knew his mind and said it to him. After I said that, Manjushri also realized the meaning. Bodhisattva Light Protector again said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, how many are there who realize the meaning like Manjushri? Please, Tathagata, extensively show the mandala of the retinue. The Blessed One said: Listen carefully, and I will also explain it to you. From the beginning there is, means that I previously had immeasurable afflictions, and because of the afflictions, there is now no great Nirvana. From the beginning there is not, means that from the beginning there was no Prajnaparamita, because of Prajnaparamita.

English

Because it doesn't exist, there are now all kinds of defilements. If a renunciate, or a Brahmin, or a god, or a demon, or Brahma, or a human, or any being, says that the Thus-Gone One has defilements in the past, future, or present, that is not possible. Noble son, furthermore, 'existing from the beginning' means that I have a body born from the union of two parents from the beginning, therefore, I do not have a vajra-like Dharma body now. 'Not existing from the beginning' means that my body does not have the thirty-two marks and eighty minor marks of excellence from the beginning. Because there are no thirty-two marks and eighty minor marks of excellence from the beginning, there are now four hundred and four diseases in full. Therefore, if a renunciate, or a Brahmin, or a god, or a demon, or Brahma, or any being including humans, says that the Thus-Gone One has the suffering of disease in the past, future, or present, that is not possible. Noble son, furthermore, 'existing from the beginning' means that I have impermanence, selflessness, no bliss, and no purity from the beginning. Because there is impermanence, selflessness, no bliss, and no purity, there is no unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment now. 'Not existing from the beginning' means that the Buddha-nature has not been seen from the beginning. Because it has not been seen, there is no permanence, bliss, self, or purity. Therefore, if a renunciate, or a Brahmin, or a god, or a demon, or Brahma, or any being including humans, says that the Thus-Gone One is impermanent in the past, future, or present, or that there is no bliss, self, or purity, that is not possible. Noble son, furthermore, 'existing from the beginning' means that from the beginning, one thinks that unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment can be attained through the mind of practicing asceticism from an inferior lineage. Because of such a thing, the four maras have not been conquered now. 'Not existing from the beginning' means that the six perfections do not exist from the beginning. Because there are no six perfections, unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment cannot be perfected through the mind of practicing asceticism from an inferior lineage.
