The completely pure emptiness, sentient beings, life, the Thus-gone One, the Dharma, the Sangha, and the ultimate truth are empty. In this, the Buddha-nature is not a conditioned dharma, therefore the Buddha-nature is not the emptiness of conditioned dharmas, so it is called conditioned emptiness. Son of the lineage, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva completely realize the emptiness of the unconditioned? The unconditioned dharma, everything is emptiness. For example, impermanence, suffering, complete impurity, selflessness, aggregates, elements, sources, sentient beings, the nature of life, conditioned, with outflows, inner dharmas, and outer dharmas. Among the unconditioned dharmas, the four dharmas such as the Buddha are neither conditioned nor the nature of the unconditioned, because they are virtuous, so they are not unconditioned. Because they are permanent and abiding, they are not conditioned. These are what Bodhisattvas completely realize as the emptiness of the unconditioned. How does a Bodhisattva completely realize the emptiness of beginninglessness? Bodhisattva Mahasattvas see that samsara is endless, everything is emptiness and extremely peaceful. For example, what is called emptiness is permanence, happiness, self, and complete purity, everything is pacified by emptiness, without change or transformation, sentient beings, life, the Three Jewels, Buddha-nature, and there is no unconditioned dharma, this is what Bodhisattvas completely realize as the emptiness of beginninglessness. How does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva completely realize the emptiness of no object? For example, someone thinks that the house is empty because they have no son, and finally realizes that there is no love or hatred, foolish and ignorant people say that only the direction is empty, poor and bad people say that everything is empty, some say it is emptiness, some say it is not emptiness, it is not like this, the Bodhisattva is like this.

When fully comprehending, like a poor person, one comprehends that all is emptiness. Thus, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva is said to fully comprehend emptiness without an object of focus. How does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva comprehend ultimate emptiness? Son of noble family, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva fully comprehends ultimate emptiness, the eye faculty, when arising, does not come from anywhere, and at the time of its ultimate cessation, it does not go anywhere either. From the beginning, it is non-existent and then exists, and after existing, it returns to non-existence. Thus, if one cuts off the pursuit of reality, then the eye does not exist, nor does a possessor exist. Just as the eye has no inherent nature, so too are all phenomena. What phenomena are called ultimate emptiness? Karma exists, and its ripening also exists, but one does not see an agent. These empty phenomena are called ultimate emptiness. Thus, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva is said to comprehend ultimate emptiness. How does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva comprehend the emptiness of emptiness? The emptiness of emptiness is a state experienced by Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, etc. Son of noble family, that which is neither existent nor non-existent is called the emptiness of emptiness. That which both is and is not, is called the emptiness of emptiness. Son of noble family, even a Bodhisattva abiding on the tenth ground only comprehends a slight fraction, a particle of dust, of it. What need is there to mention others? Son of noble family, thus, the emptiness of emptiness is not shared in common with the Samadhi of the emptiness of emptiness of Hearers. This is what is called a Bodhisattva fully comprehending the emptiness of emptiness. Son of noble family, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva fully comprehend great emptiness? Son of noble family, what is called great emptiness is like this: the Perfection of Wisdom, that is, great emptiness. Son of noble family, when a Bodhisattva

Having obtained the door of wisdom, one will abide on the ground that is equal to the sky. Son of lineage, when I taught the meaning of emptiness such as this in this great wheel mandala, Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas as numerous as the sands of ten Ganges rivers will abide on the ground that is equal to the sky. Son of lineage, when Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas abide on that ground, they are unobstructed by all dharmas, and there is no grasping, nor is there any delight. Therefore, it is called the ground that is equal to the sky. Son of lineage, it is like this: for example, the sky neither clings to a pleasing form nor generates hatred towards an unpleasing form. Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas abiding on this ground are also the same; they have no desire or hatred for good or bad forms. Son of lineage, it is like this: for example, the sky is vast and wide, unparalleled, and like accommodating all dharmas, Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas also abide on that ground in the same way, being extremely vast, unparalleled, and accommodating all dharmas. Therefore, it is called the ground that is equal to the sky. Son of lineage, when Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas abide on this ground, they will see and realize all dharmas; whether they practice, or the object of focus, and its nature, characteristics, cause, condition, as well as the minds of sentient beings, faculties, meditation, vehicle, spiritual friends, keeping precepts, practicing generosity, and so on, all dharmas will be realized and seen. Son of lineage, furthermore, when Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas abide on that ground, they will no longer see with wisdom. What is wisdom? It is like this: the practices of self-mortification, as well as jumping into water, jumping into fire, jumping into rocks, standing on one foot, scorching with five heats, ash pits, piles of earth and thorns, leaves and grass, lying on dung, wearing rough clothes and rags, wearing discarded clothes in tombs and garbage heaps, wearing bark, wearing deerskin, wearing tree bark, wearing grass, eating grass and fruits, and so on.
