It should be known that I am an illusion. Son of good family, the Tathagata shows such various methods in order to tame sentient beings, not specifically to frighten them. Son of good family, I once held a wooden stick and struck a yaksha named Dharma Protector. Also, on one occasion, a yaksha named Sheep-Head was pushed from a cliff and thrown into a ravine. Furthermore, a yaksha named Monkey was thrown from a tree trunk into a precipice, and a yaksha named Woolly Ox Wealth Protector was made to see five lions, and having transformed into a vajra body, the Tirthikas who speak everywhere were made to fear, and a hairy yaksha was impaled with a sandalwood stake, and so forth. Although these things were done, those yakshas were not harmed, but various methods were shown in order to make them abide in the sacred Dharma. Son of good family, at that time I did not truly scold Devadatta, nor was Devadatta himself foolish, nor did he eat human saliva, nor would he be born in a bad rebirth, nor would he experience suffering for one kalpa in the Avici hell, nor did he cause dissension in the Sangha, nor did he draw blood from the body of the Buddha, nor did he violate the four root vows, nor did he slander the sacred Dharma, nor did he slander the Mahayana sutras, nor was he a heretic, nor was he a Shravaka or Pratyekabuddha. Son of good family, Devadatta is truly not the domain of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, but only the Buddhas know and see him. Son of good family, therefore, you should not ask, "Why did the Tathagata scold, revile, and rebuke Devadatta?" You are the kind of person who raises doubts about the domain of the Buddhas. The Bodhisattva Light Protector again said to the Bhagavan: "For example, just as sugarcane, when boiled again and again, produces various tastes, similarly, I have heard again and again from the Bhagavan and have obtained many different tastes of Dharma, namely the taste of arising, the taste of abandoning desire, the taste of peace, and the taste of Bodhi. Also, Bhagavan, just as pure gold is repeatedly

Again, if melted and hammered, it becomes pure gold, very bright, soft, very radiant, and valuable, becoming a treasure for gods and humans. The Bhagavan Tathagata is also like that. If asked again and again, one will hear and see very profound meanings. Therefore, yogis hold the profound meaning in their minds and practice diligently, and countless beings will generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. After that, gods and humans will respectfully make offerings. Then, the Bhagavan praised the Bodhisattva Light Holder, saying, "Excellent, excellent! Light Holder, great Bodhisattva, it is excellent that you have asked this very profound meaning for the benefit and happiness of sentient beings! Son of good family, therefore, just as you have thought, I will also explain the very vast and profound meaning of the Great Vehicle, just like explaining the ground of joy like a single child." The Bodhisattva Light Holder again said to the Bhagavan, "If Bodhisattvas diligently practice love, compassion, and joy, they will attain the ground like a single child, then what ground will they attain if they diligently practice equanimity?" The Bhagavan said, "Excellent, very excellent! Son of good family, you are very skilled in timing, and it is good that you asked, as I was also intending to speak." When the Bodhisattva Mahasattva diligently practices equanimity, he will abide in the ground of emptiness and equality like Subhuti. Son of good family, when the Bodhisattva Mahasattva abides in the ground of emptiness and equality, from parents, siblings, sisters, children, relatives, and friends, to not clinging to love and hatred, and even not clinging to aggregates, elements, sources, sentient beings, and life. Son of good family, just as there are no parents, siblings, wives, and children in the sky, and even no sentient beings and life, so too, all dharmas are without parents and even without life. Son of good family, Bodhisattva Mahasattva

Great indeed, the mind that equally regards all dharmas is like the sky. Why is that? Because it is extremely skilled in diligently practicing the dharma of emptiness. The Bodhisattva Light Protector again asked the Bhagavan: What is meant by emptiness? The Buddha replied: Son of good family, what is called emptiness is like this: inner emptiness, outer emptiness, inner-outer emptiness, conditioned emptiness, unconditioned emptiness, emptiness without beginning or end, self-nature emptiness, emptiness without object, ultimate emptiness, emptiness of emptiness, great emptiness. How does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva fully understand inner emptiness? A Bodhisattva Mahasattva understands that the inner dharma is emptiness. The inner dharma emptiness is like this: parents and, love and hatred and, sentient beings and, life and, permanence and, happiness and, self and, complete purity are also not. Tathagata and, Dharma and, Sangha and, the substance of matter are also not. Thus, although there is Buddha-nature in the inner dharma, that Buddha-nature is neither inside nor outside. Why is that? Because Buddha-nature is permanent, abiding, unchanging, and unmoving. These are what is called a Bodhisattva Mahasattva fully understanding inner emptiness. Outer emptiness is also the same as it, there is not even a little inner dharma. Inner-outer emptiness is also the same as it. Son of good family, the Tathagata and, the Buddha and, the Dharma and the Sangha and, the Buddha-nature do not abide in these two emptinesses. Why is that? Like this, permanence, happiness, self, and purity, these four dharmas are not called emptiness, but both inner and outer are called emptiness. Son of good family, conditioned emptiness refers to the emptiness of all conditioned dharmas. For example, inner emptiness, outer emptiness, inner-outer emptiness, permanence, happiness, self,
