Immediately, I appeared. Then, as soon as medicine was applied to her wound, it was restored to its original state. Then, I showed and explained various kinds of Dharma to her, making her very happy, and she generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Son of good family, at that time, I did not actually go to the city of Sravasti, nor did I apply medicine to the wound of the virtuous woman, but, son of good family, it was also due to the power of the root of loving-kindness that the virtuous woman saw such things. Son of good family, furthermore, Devadatta was unruly and insatiable, and without moderation in eating, he drank too much ghee, which caused his abdomen to swell and ache. He experienced extremely unbearable great suffering, and thus he cried out: "Homage to the Buddha! Homage to the Buddha!" At that time, I was residing in the city of Udanī. Hearing that cry, I generated a mind of great loving-kindness, and at that time, Devadatta saw me. At that time, I also went there and stroked his head and belly with my hand, and poured ghee into him. As soon as he drank it, he was healed. Son of good family, at that time, I did not actually go to Devadatta's presence, nor did I stroke his head and belly with my hand, nor did I pour ghee into him, but, son of good family, it was also due to the power of the root of loving-kindness that Devadatta recognized those things. Son of good family, furthermore, in the country of Kosala, about five hundred unruly wild men gathered together and committed theft, causing great harm. King Prasenajit attacked them with troops, captured them all, gouged out their eyes, and placed them in a dense forest. At that time, those unruly wild men had all planted roots of virtue in the past before the Buddhas. Therefore, after having their eyes gouged out, they experienced extremely great suffering, and thus they cried out: "Homage to the Buddha! Homage to the Buddha! We have no protector or refuge, no relatives or friends!" They wailed and wept in this way. At that time, I was residing in Jeta's Grove, and hearing that cry, I generated a mind of great loving-kindness.

arose (compassion). At that time, a very cool wind blew from the fragrant mountain, and various appearances like medicinal nectar filled their eyes, reviving them. Those untamed wild men, the moment they opened their eyes, saw the Tathagata. Then, the sacred Dharma was taught to those untamed wild men, and they were made to generate the mind towards unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Son of good family, at that time there was no actual transformation into wind, nor was incense taken from the fragrant mountain, nor was the Dharma taught in front of those people. However, son of good family, by the power of the root of virtue of loving-kindness, those untamed wild men saw such things. Son of good family, furthermore, a king named Vaidurya, foolish and deluded, seized the throne by trickery. After ascending the throne himself, he did not forget past grudges, and had twelve thousand Shakya clan women's ears and noses cut off, their hands and feet chopped off, and thrown into a pit. At that time, those women were in great pain and prostrated to the Buddha. They prostrated to the Buddha! They cried out, saying, "We have no protector or refuge!" and wept with a loud voice. Those women had all planted roots of virtue with many Buddhas in the past. At that time, while I was dwelling in the grove of light, I heard the sound of their calling and generated great compassion. At that time, those girls saw me going to Kapilavastu, washing their wounds with clean water, and applying medicine, and their suffering was immediately pacified. All the ears, noses, hands, and feet that had been cut off grew back and were restored. At that time, I also taught them the sacred Dharma, and they all generated the mind towards unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. They all went forth and were fully ordained in the presence of the great Prajapati Gautami Bhikshuni. Son of good family, the Tathagata did not actually go to Kapilavastu at that time, nor did he wash wounds, apply medicine, or pacify suffering. However, son of good family, all those people were due to the virtue of loving-kindness.
