Except for Bodhisattvas. Thus, it is called like a fierce wind. How is it like the star Phod? For example, when the star Phod appears, famine, disease, and war will occur in the place where it appears. The star Phod of desire is also the same, cutting off the seeds of all virtuous roots, causing wicked children to be poor, causing famine, causing the disease of affliction, revolving in samsara, and experiencing various kinds of suffering, except for Bodhisattvas. Thus, it is called like the star Phod. Son of good family, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva dwells in the Mahayana Nirvana Sutra, he understands all the afflictions of desire in these nine ways. Son of good family, therefore, wicked children have suffering, but no truth. Hearers and Pratyekabuddhas have suffering and the truth of suffering, but no true truth. Bodhisattvas know suffering and have no suffering, therefore there is no suffering, but there is true truth. Wicked children have the origin of suffering, but no truth. Hearers and Pratyekabuddhas have the origin of suffering and the truth of the origin of suffering. Bodhisattvas know the origin of suffering and have no origin of suffering, therefore there is no origin of suffering, but there is true truth. Hearers and Pratyekabuddhas have cessation, but it is not true. Bodhisattva Mahasattvas have cessation and true truth. Hearers and Pratyekabuddhas have the path, but it is not the truth. Bodhisattva Mahasattvas have the path and true truth. Son of good family, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, dwelling in the Mahayana Nirvana Sutra, see cessation and see the truth of cessation? It is like this, all afflictions are completely cut off. If afflictions are cut off, it is called permanent. Because the fire of affliction is extinguished, it is called Nirvana. Because affliction is stopped, one experiences happiness. Buddhas and Bodhisattvas

The brave ones are called completely pure because they desire dependent origination. Because they do not take back the twenty-five existences, they are called transcendent of the world. Because they are transcendent of the world, they are called self. Form and, sound and, smell and, taste and, touch and, male and, female and, birth and, abiding and, cessation and, suffering and, happiness and, neither suffering nor happiness, not taking these characteristics, therefore it is called the ultimate, completely peaceful, the true truth. Son of good family, thus, when a Bodhisattva dwells in the Mahayana Sutra of Complete Nirvana, it is called completely realizing the noble truth of cessation. Son of good family, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, dwelling in the Mahayana Complete Nirvana, realize the noble truth of the path? Son of good family, for example, if a torch appears in a dark room, all things, large and small, within it will be seen. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva is also like that; dwelling in the Sutra of Mahayana Complete Nirvana, through the cause of the eightfold noble path, all dharmas will be seen. That is, permanence and, impermanence and, conditioned and, unconditioned and, sentient beings and non-sentient beings and, things and non-things and, happiness and suffering and, self and non-self and, purity and impurity and, afflictions and non-afflictions and, karma and non-karma and, truth and non-truth and, vehicle and non-vehicle and, knowledge and non-knowledge and, qualities and non-qualities and, master and non-master and, visible and invisible and, form and non-form and, path and non-path and, wisdom and non-wisdom, and so on. Son of good family, thus, when a Bodhisattva dwells in the Mahayana Sutra of Complete Nirvana, it is called completely realizing the noble truth of the path. Bodhisattva Kashyapa also said this to the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, if this is the noble truth of the eightfold noble path, is its meaning consistent?

The earth element. Why is that? Because the Tathagata sometimes says that faith is the path in order to liberate those with defilements. Sometimes he says that diligence is the path, because the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, attain complete and perfect enlightenment by being diligent, and thus he also says that it is a limb of the Bodhisattva's path. Sometimes he says that exertion is the path, and he also said to Ananda: "Ananda, whoever exerts himself greatly will attain complete and perfect enlightenment." Sometimes he says that establishing mindfulness of the body on the body is to focus the mind one-pointedly. If one diligently establishes mindfulness of the body on the body with exertion, one will attain complete and perfect enlightenment. Sometimes he also says that right concentration is the path, as he said to Mahakashyapa, "Right concentration is the path, and what is not right concentration is not the path." If one enters into concentration, one will be able to remember the arising and ceasing of the five aggregates, but if one does not enter into concentration, one will not be able to remember. Sometimes he says that by meditating and striving on one dharma, one will completely purify all beings' sorrow, suffering, and strife, and attain the right dharma, such as the concentration of mindfulness of the Buddha. Sometimes he also says that meditating on impermanence is the path, and he also said to the monks: "Whoever meditates on impermanence extensively will attain complete and perfect enlightenment." Sometimes he also says that if one dwells alone in a very secluded place and contemplates, one will quickly attain complete and perfect enlightenment. Sometimes he says that teaching the Dharma to others is the path, because by hearing the Dharma, the net of doubt is cut.
