Except for the power and strength of the earth. O Kasyapa, it is like this: when the kalpa of water washes away, everything is washed away and disappears, except for the third dhyana. Son of good family, the water of death is also the same, it washes away and destroys everything, except for the Bodhisattva who abides in this sutra of the Great Vehicle Nirvana. O Kasyapa, it is like this: when the kalpa of wind arises, everything is destroyed and disappears, except for the fourth dhyana. Son of good family, the wind of death is also the same, it destroys everything, but not the Bodhisattva who abides in the sutra of the Great Vehicle Nirvana. Bodhisattva Kasyapa said to the Bhagavan: "Why is it that the fourth dhyana is not destroyed by the wind, not washed away by the water, and not burned by the fire?" The Bhagavan said to Kasyapa: "Son of good family, the fourth dhyana is free from all faults, both internal and external. Son of good family, the first dhyana has the fault of thought within, so it is burned by the external fire. The second dhyana has the fault of joy within, so it is washed away by the external water. The third dhyana has the flow of breath within, so it will be destroyed by the kalpa of wind. Son of good family, the fourth dhyana is free from all faults, both internal and external, so it cannot be destroyed by the kalpa. Son of good family, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is also the same, if he abides in peace in the sutra of the Great Vehicle Nirvana, he is free from all faults, both internal and external, so he cannot be destroyed by the king of death. Son of good family, again, it is like this: the king of the Garuda bird can digest dragons, fish, gold, silver, and jewels, but he cannot digest the vajra alone. Son of good family, the king of the Garuda bird of death is also the same, he can digest all sentient beings, but he cannot digest the Bodhisattva Mahasattva who abides in the sutra of the Great Vehicle Nirvana. O Kasyapa, again, it is like this: the trees and grass that grow by the water's edge

Everything is carried away by water, going all the way to the ocean, except for the willow tree, because its roots are soft. Son of good family, all sentient beings are also like that; when everything flows into the ocean of samsara, only the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas who abide in the Mahayana Nirvana Sutra are not. Shariputra, it is like this: a great power can subdue all, including giants, but not just a great wind. Why is that? Because there is no antidote. Son of good family, the great power of death is also like that; it can subdue all sentient beings, but not the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas who abide in the Mahayana Nirvana Sutra. Why is that? Because there is no antidote. Shariputra, also, it is like this: enemies who hate each other, even though they have grudges, pretend to be close or friendly through deceit, accompany like a shadow, and seek opportunities to kill, but if the other party has already taken precautions, they cannot kill. Son of good family, the enemy of death is also like that; it always seeks opportunities to kill all sentient beings, but it cannot kill the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas who abide in the Mahayana Nirvana Sutra. Why is that? Because Bodhisattvas take precautions. Shariputra, also, it is like this: when a rain of vajras falls, it can destroy everything; it can destroy trees and forests, as well as earth, sand, gravel, tiles, stones, gold, silver, and vaidurya, etc., but not a genuine vajra jewel. Son of good family, the rain of vajras of death is also like that; it can annihilate all sentient beings, but not the vajra-like Bodhisattvas who abide in the Mahayana Nirvana Sutra. Shariputra, also, it is like this: the Garuda bird can eat all nagas, but not those who have taken refuge in the Three Refuges. Son of good family, the Garuda bird of death is also like that; it can eat all immeasurable sentient beings, but not those who abide in emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, that is, the three emptinesses. Shariputra, also, it is like this: a poisonous snake
