All that has become is not necessarily endowed with enjoyment. Therefore, the meaning spoken by the Blessed One is indeed a meaning with remainder. Out of compassion for us, please reveal its cause and condition. Why is that? Blessed One, in the three thousand great thousand world realms, in the western continent of Godhaniya, there is a river called Sapaka, which flows into the western ocean like a black line. The characteristics of this river have not been spoken of by the Blessed One in other sutras. The Tathagata has spoken of the remainder in this very extensive sutra. May the Bodhisattvas also realize these meanings. Blessed One, for example, someone who previously recognizes gold ore but does not recognize real gold is similar. The Tathagata is also like that, although he has understood all dharmas, what he has taught and spoken still has a remainder. Although the Tathagata has spoken of it as having a remainder, it is also spoken with consideration, combined with skillful means. All forests are certainly trees, this statement also has a remainder. Why is that? Because forests of various jewels such as gold, silver, and vaidurya are also called forests. All women are certainly deceitful, this statement also has a remainder. Why is that? Because some women uphold morality completely, are endowed with qualities, and are endowed with love and compassion. All those with power are certainly endowed with enjoyment, this statement also has a remainder. Why is that? Because the wheel-turning king who has power, the Tathagata, the king of Dharma, is not excluded from the retinue of the Lord of Death, the Mara, and cannot be avoided. Brahma and Indra and others have power, but they are impermanent. That which is constant, unchanging, and unmoving is called having power, and that is the Great Vehicle, the complete Nirvana. The Blessed One said: Son of good family, you are endowed with great eloquence, but wait a moment and listen attentively. Manjushri, for example, a householder who is afflicted with illness, very

A weak person met a skilled doctor, and the doctor prescribed the medicine A-ga. If that patient was a glutton and wanted to eat a lot, the doctor would say to him: Patient, if you take the medicine, you will also excrete a lot. You are weak and thin and cannot digest it, so you must not excrete a lot. Therefore, this medicine A-ga can be called nectar, and it can also be called poison. If you drink too much and cannot digest it, it is called poison. Son of good family, do not think that what the skilled doctor said is contradictory or wrong, or that the medicine has no power. Son of good family, the Tathagata is also like that. In order to tame the kings, queens, princes, great ministers, and the kings who completely defeat the enemy, the princes, queens, and the arrogant people in the palace, in order to make them fearful and afraid, like that skilled doctor, he spoke these verses: All flowing rivers, surely flow crookedly. All trees belonging to the forest, surely will be pecked by birds. All women who are mentioned, surely are cunning and deceitful. All those who have power, surely enjoy without satisfaction. Manjushri, you should understand it like this, there is no mistake in what the Tathagata said. This great earth may change and turn, but there is no mistake in what the Tathagata said. Therefore, everything that the Tathagata said has reservations. Then, the Bhagavan praised Manjushri, the youth, saying: Very good! Very good! Son of good family, you have thoroughly understood this meaning for a long time, because you have compassion for all beings, and in order to transform all sentient beings into wisdom, it is good that you have asked the Tathagata in detail about the meaning of these verses! Then, Manjushri, the youth, again requested the Buddha in the form of verses: Do not refute what others say because of following them. Do not investigate what others have done or not done. One should thoroughly investigate oneself, whether one's actions are virtuous or non-virtuous. These are the teachings spoken by the Bhagavan.

If that kind of medicine is not correctly proclaimed, then, in order to prevent others from following what others say and contradicting it, the Tathagata is requested to correctly reveal it for the sake of compassion. What is the reason for this? The Blessed One taught in various ways that all ninety-five types of non-Buddhists would fall into the lower realms. The close attendants of the Shravakas will all go on the right path. Because those who completely guard the precepts, are extremely cautious in their behavior, and guard their senses, are extremely devoted to the great Dharma, and practice virtue. Why did the Blessed One say in the nine sutras that if one slanders others, one should be condemned and rebuked? According to what intention was this said? The Blessed One said to Manjushri: Son of good family, the verses I have spoken are not for all sentient beings, but for King Ajatasatru at that time. The Buddha, the Blessed One, does not teach the Dharma in a reversed way without cause or condition. Because there is cause and condition, it is said that way. Son of good family, King Ajatasatru killed his father and came to where I was, wanting to be tamed, so he asked me this: If it is said that the Buddha, the Blessed One, is omniscient, then he is not omniscient. If he is omniscient, Devadatta has harmed the Tathagata with evil intentions for countless past lives, why did the Tathagata allow him to be ordained? Son of good family, because of that reason, that condition, for that king, he spoke this verse: One should not follow and contradict what others say. One should not examine what others have done or not done. One should extremely examine oneself, and practice good and non-good deeds. The Blessed One said: Great King, you have committed the heinous crime of killing your father, why don't you deeply repent and completely purify yourself, but instead seek out the faults of others?
