This is called embarking on the path of wrong views. If someone knows that they have violated the four root vows or committed the five heinous crimes, and having committed such great evils, they have no fear or shame from the beginning, do not regret, do not confess, do not cherish the sacred Dharma, and have no intention of abandoning their faults, but rather despise, slander, and accuse others with many faults, such a person is also said to be embarking on the path of wrong views. Furthermore, if someone says that there is no Buddha, Dharma, or Sangha, that person is also said to be embarking on the path of wrong views. Thus, except for those with wrong views, all other children are praised and extolled. Chapter Fourteen. Then, Cunda again asked the Blessed One, "Blessed One, what is the meaning of having bad morality?" The Blessed One replied, "Whoever violates the four root vows, commits the five heinous crimes, and slanders the sacred Dharma is called having bad morality." Cunda asked again, "Is there a possibility of liberation for such a person with bad morality?" The Blessed One replied, "If the causes and conditions are complete, there is a possibility of liberation." Even if someone wears the robes but has not completely renounced the world, still possesses shame, fear, and a sense of dread, and deeply regrets, thinking, "Alas, why did I commit such a great evil deed? Alas, why did I commit this deed that leads to suffering?" Having generated such a profound sense of regret, and also generating the intention to protect the Dharma and the intention to abandon faults, making offerings to those who uphold the Dharma, requesting teachings on the Mahayana sutras, praying, and also holding, remembering, reading, reciting, and understanding them, and extensively explaining and teaching them to others, such a person should not be called someone with bad morality. Why is that? Noble son, just as when the sun rises, it dispels the mist and all the invisible darkness, so too, the appearance of this Great Nirvana Sutra in the world is similar.

It can eliminate all the boundless misdeeds that have been done. Therefore, those who take refuge in the true Dharma from this Sutra will obtain great fruits, and will be able to completely liberate themselves from evil precepts, as it is said. Among them, if someone slanders the true Dharma, they should deeply regret and confess. After taking refuge in the Dharma, they should remember all the non-virtuous deeds they have done, just as if they had committed murder, they would feel extremely fearful. Or they should feel extremely ashamed and embarrassed, thinking that apart from this true Dharma, there is no other refuge or support. If they take refuge as the true Dharma has shown and proclaimed, and if they give alms to such a person, they will obtain immeasurable merit and become an object of offering in the world. If someone commits the aforementioned misdeeds and takes refuge or confesses within a month or fifteen days, or does not generate a feeling of regret, even if they give alms to such a person, it will not result in great fruit. Committing the five heinous crimes is also the same; if they generate a feeling of regret, and their heart is filled with shame and embarrassment, thinking, "I have committed non-virtuous deeds and will experience great suffering," and if they think in this way and act as a protector and refuge for the sake of upholding the true Dharma, then it is not the same as committing the five heinous crimes. If they give alms to such a person, they will obtain immeasurable merit. Even if they have committed the five heinous crimes, if they protect the true Dharma or generate a feeling of refuge, and give alms to such a person, it goes without saying that it will become merit. Noble son, again, for those who have committed great misdeeds, please listen carefully, and I will explain it to you in detail. They should generate this thought: the so-called true Dharma is the essence of the Tathagata, therefore it should be protected, safeguarded, and established. Giving alms to it will result in obtaining the supreme fruit of merit. Noble son, for example, a pregnant woman who is close to giving birth in a
