It is called the earth element, unchanging and unmoving. Son of good family, it is also like this, for example, mango trees and jambu trees change three times in a year. Like this, At some times, flowers and so on become very abundant. At some times, leaves and so on become very abundant. At some times, all the leaves fall off and it becomes like a dry tree. Son of good family, what do you think in your mind? At that time, is that tree completely withered? He replied: No, O Blessed One. The Blessed One said: Son of good family, the Tathagata is also like that, showing three forms in the three realms, like this: sometimes it is the first birth, sometimes it is the complete form, and sometimes it is showing nirvana. The body of the Tathagata is not impermanent. Bodhisattva Mahasattva Light Protector praised the Blessed One, saying: Good, very good, as the Blessed One said, the Tathagata is permanent, abiding, unchanging, and unmoving. Thus he reported. The Blessed One said: Son of good family, what the Tathagata says after careful consideration is very difficult to understand. For example, a great king orders his ministers, saying: Bring Sentapa. The word Sentapa, one name can refer to four things. Like this, salt, vessel, water, and horse, these four things are compatible. Among them, a wise minister, if the king intends to bathe, when ordering to bring Sentapa, offers water. When the king is doing the work of eating, when ordering to bring Sentapa, he offers salt. When the king finishes eating and wants to drink, when ordering to bring Sentapa, he offers the vessel. If the king intends to go out, when ordering to bring Sentapa, he leads the horse. Thus, the wise minister is proficient in the four secret intentions of the king. This Mahayana sutra is also like this, there are four kinds of impermanence. Those who are very proficient in Mahayana should be very proficient in this. Buddha, Blessed One...

Having become a support, explaining the Tathagata's passing into Nirvana to sentient beings, wise individuals should know that the Tathagata taught impermanence to counteract the clinging to permanence, in order to make the monks diligent in the characteristic of impermanence. Furthermore, at a specific time, he taught that the holy Dharma would perish, wise individuals should know that the Tathagata taught suffering to counteract the clinging to happiness, in order to make the monks diligent in the characteristic of suffering. Moreover, he taught thus: I have the suffering of illness, and the Sangha will also perish, wise individuals should know that the Tathagata taught no-self to counteract the clinging to self, in order to make the monks diligent in no-self. Furthermore, at a specific time, he taught that emptiness is true liberation, wise individuals should know that the Tathagata taught true liberation, and the twenty-five existences do not exist, in order to make the monks diligent in emptiness. Therefore, for true liberation, it is emptiness. It can also be called unmoving, without movement, because there is no suffering in liberation, it is called unmoving. True liberation is without characteristics, therefore it is called without characteristics, because there is no form, sound, smell, taste, touch, etc., therefore it is called without characteristics. True liberation is permanent, unchanging, unmoving, in liberation there is no impermanence, change, or movement, therefore, liberation is permanent, abiding, unchanging, cool. If it is taught that all sentient beings have the Tathagatagarbha nature, wise individuals should know that the Tathagata taught the Dharma called permanence, in order to make the monks diligent in the Dharma of true permanence. Monks, those who diligently practice and study in this way should be known as my true attendants. The essence of what the Tathagata spoke after careful consideration is like that of a great king...

It is like a wise minister understanding the king's thoughts. Son of good family, since even a great king has secret words, how much more so the Tathagata? Son of good family, therefore, what the Tathagata speaks after contemplation is extremely difficult to understand. Only a wise and intelligent person will understand this profound Dharma that I have spoken after contemplation. The foolish children of the world will not be able to understand it. Furthermore, son of good family, for example, if the Pāṭala tree, the Kanika tree, and the Ashoka tree encounter a great drought, they will not blossom or bear fruit. Furthermore, all plants that grow in water will not grow to their full potential without oil, and all medicines will become less potent. Son of good family, this Mahayana Sutra, the Great Nirvana Sutra, is also the same. After my Nirvana, sentient beings will not cherish it, and its glory will diminish. Why is that? Because those sentient beings do not understand what the Tathagata has spoken after contemplation. And why is that? Because sentient beings have little merit. Son of good family, furthermore, when the Tathagata's sacred Dharma is gradually decaying and nearing its end, at that time, at that period, sinful monks will increase. Because they do not understand the essence of what the Tathagata has spoken after contemplation, they will be lazy and negligent, and will not be able to read, recite, distinguish, and explain the Tathagata's true Dharma. It is like foolish thieves who abandon genuine jewels and instead carry husks. Because they do not understand the essence of what the Tathagata has spoken after contemplation, they are lazy towards this Sutra and do not cultivate diligence. Alas! Those people will fall into a great and terrifying abyss in the future. Alas! Those sentient beings will not diligently practice this Mahayana Sutra, the Great Nirvana Sutra, but only Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas will truly understand the meaning of this Sutra as it is, not clinging to the words and phrases, following it and not contradicting it, and will also teach it to sentient beings in the same way. Son of good family, other
